have a what I think is a avery, has b f avery in many locations on tractor. has a # 5905 on rearend houseing but tractor is yellow. where can I find correct serial #.

If BF Avery model A the seriel # is stamped in the right frame rail on top just in front on the brakes.
If it is a Avery V the seriel # is stamped in the right frame rail on top next to the bell housing.
If it is yellow it my by a general and will have a seriel # plate on right frame rail on side by brakes.
It could be a Minniapolis Moline BF,V or BG these are yellow,Prarie Gold.Not sure where there seriel #'s are.

found a # on top of frame rail # is 7v-023 but v serial #s highest first # is a 6 isn't it.

No your tractor would be a 1952 Minniaplois Moline V.1952 seriel #'s are from 6V422-7V271 so yours is one of the last 250 made. Here is the BF Avery Collectors Club web site with lots of good info.
