I am looking at a JD2130 and would like any info good or bad about this beast. Particularly anything I should be aware of when I give it the real good inspection. I realize nothing is perfect in the real world but I would like some of the experts advice, so's I don't loosee my hinny. What about parts and availibility? Any advice would be greatly apreciated. Thanks in advance.

without a doubt the most unreliable & most expensive item on that series of tractor is the hi-lo shift system, whom ever designed that piece of juck should be fired. also, the first thing i would do after buying any tractor is to check the crankshaft & bearings, a few hundred dollars goes a long way to saving several thousand, or even junking the tractor all together.

be sure to check the main front support housing that the axle pivots on since if the tractor has ever had a loader on it, they were also know to crack or break with heavy use, all in all they are a good little tractor, just every model or make of tractor has certain weak areas

Parts from your friendly Deere dealer. Parts, service and operators manuals from 1-800-522-7448. Built for the 75-77 production years. If the antifreeze has been long ignored it could have turned acidic and contributed to sleeve cavitation like any diesel. If some well intentioned but out of touch doofus has added sae 90 gear oil to the transmission/hydraulic system. The wet brakes and pto clutches will be mush in the bottom of the tranmission case. Pull the trans filter and look for clutch material and brake metal. The Mannheim Germany built 20,30,40,50,55 series are all excellent except the early 3130's. Late 3130's had the tranmission updated. Deere would do well to demote all those who approved the 5000,5010 & 5020 series of tractors to custodial work. Then say sorry and put the new emissions engines in the 55 series Mannheim's.
