Alway's noticed from film clips that ther are a lot of older cars 40s-50s still going strong in Cuba. It's got me wondering whats down there in the farm machine bracket

I read an article in some magazine a few years back about those old cars. The vast majority of them are not "still going strong". They are running, and still being used, but they are kept running by using whatever parts they can scrounge up to replace what has just worn out, or broken. In other words, that 52 Buick you see in a picture might have an engine from a 68 Datsun.

My wife and I have done some missionary work in Cuba. We have a license with the US government to go. I haven't spent much time in the agricultural areas, but what I did see were old Russian tractors similar to the Belarus. We plan to go back in the spring and I will try to find out more, after all, agriculture does affect every nation. It is truly amazing how the people there can keep the 40's and 50's model cars running. It is getting harder and harder for them to get any kind of parts for them, especially when doctors and engineers only get $15-$20 a MONTH government salary. They are provided a certain amount of rations each day though. We truly lived in a BLESSED country.

I am still trying to find out if any of the Olivers that were sent to brazil with no electrcail systems on them are still there. talk about something to have at a tractor show!!! Hydraulic starters and everything.!!! However I would almost bet there is alot of older farm equipment there along with quite a bit of russian built like Belarus and Zetor and such.

I got to wondering the same thing some time ago and posted a question similar to yours. Seems to me that it has to be a place where there's a lot of old tractors still around and it service.

I've been told by a reliable source (Alberta Mike) that at least one early model ETD is still in daily use near the Bay of Pigs. A large swine operation. I think it's called: "El Piggio Farmo LTD."
