possible causes for excessive engine vibration:

1. Faulty vibration damper
2. Unbalanced or loose flywheel
3. Main bearing bore out of alignment
4. Engine due for overhaul
5. Misalignment of engine with driven unit
6. Loose mounting bolts

Hi,

these are points I took out from a trouble-shooting chart for diesel engines.

If there is a vibration damper, it will be located on the crankshaft, beside the drive pulley. But I dont think there is one, I have a ford 3000 and a white 1470 and they dont have one. It is used in much larger diesel engines. You have to be sure it is engine vibration and not engine roughness, because these are two conplaints that lead to different diagnostics.

If you give me you email adress, I can post you two diesel engine trouble charts that I have in order to help you out. Do you have your engine model or cyl bore and stroke, maybe I can get some info about that engine.
