I am restoring my late brother-in-laws J.D. 60, have got it to running after sitting up for several years but the throttle lever slips and does not move the linkage ,have lubricated it from the back side and tried tightening spring on the back and it still slips. most of my tractor experince has been on letter series I.H. ,any tips would be appreciated.

I had the same problem with my 730. I tried to get a new fiber/friction washer from Deere but the dealer told me they don't make such a thing and the whole throttle lever is no longer available. When I took it apart the fiber washer looked like it was made out of either clutch or brake facing material. I got a piece of new brake lining material from a local engine and brake rebuilder. I used a hole saw to cut out another washer for my throttle lever. It ended up working great and was a simple fix. If you use clutch or brake linings make sure you keep them wet when you work the material, ie: sawing and drilling as some linings contain asbestos. Keeping the material moist will reduce any dust.

thanks!! I believe either( both your's or DRL's ) suggestion will work. I had heard that the part was obsolete, but you people on this forum can usually come up with a good remedy, I usaully learn something new every time I log on.

Could also cut a round piece of leather and place between the throttle lever and the mount.

Thanks to you also!! That sounds like it would do the job. I have heard it had some kind of fiber washer between them that deteroited.

That's exactly what has happened. The leather trick is an old farmer-in-the-field fix. Worked just as good or better than the fibre washers.

Have a 630 the throttle wouldn't stay put, and would always come back to idle. I don't know how similar it is to a 60, but there is a speed plate kit with new facings in it I bought from the dealer. Fixed it right up. I'm pretty sure the kit had instructions on how to replace it. Once that screw under the hood came out, it was a piece of cake. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
