Went to the auction today to try and find me a project. They had 6; 1976 to 1981 ford 2600's like the one in the picture.

gas motor that did not run
no water in radiator (maybe head gasket; cracked block)
oil over full (see above)
3 speed w/ high low trans
major surface rust
rust through spots
fair to bald with cord showing tires
3 point w/ and w/o arms
loose steering
missing grill and other parts
ECT..... .

OK so what is it worth?????
They went for $1800.00 each

So my question is AM I JUST A MAJOR EL CHEAPO???Or is this junk worth that much????
How can any one pay that much for this and make money at it. One guy bought at least 3 of them. Only thing I can figure is he is selling part by part to make money.
YOUR IDEAS AND COMMENTS.....
THANKS..... .

To answer some of the questions and comments ....
These are one owner tractors owned and matained by the city of new orleans and used to cut grass.
These tractors would have been used 40 hrs per week. 20 hours to cut grass and 20 hours as a park bench. The only cover they would have seen was under a shade tree for the park bench time.
Thought you like to see this
MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL

He didn't do that bad, he'll probably spend $2-3,000.00 on it and sell it to a hobby farmer for $6,500.00. It happens every day where I live, it's practically an industry in the south!

I would say you are smart, maybe cheap too, I don't know. But in this case smart. Don't mean an insult by cheap either. I am basically cheap too.

What are you complaining about, it has one nice looking headlight???? :) I'm sure in the post below about reselling for $3500 needs a little work, they will aslo mention 'good lighting'. :)

What did they do, store them in a salt mine for 10 years? Would have to go for parts, but man if the engine is in that bad a condition, isn't the rest?

Parts is parts is what I see them selling for. More of a project than I would care to tackle.

Those tractors were most likely sold for parts. Even in the condition they are in,they can be broken up for parts and most likely return $3-5000 per tractor. They are a popular model and there is alot of interest in parts to keep them running.

If you had the right connections to move the parts you could make some money, If you were just wanting a tractor to fix up to use would probably not be economical to buy one in this shape. Heck I see good tractors (by the description) in the classifieds for slightly more than 1800 every day.

My guess would be they will be dismantled for parts, all internals etc run through a bead shot then sold really clean as a good replacement part. Sometimes these "good" parts aren't so good. Totally dismantled they are probably worth a small fortune.

Judging from the general appearance of these tractors, I have serious doubts as to whether there is $1800 worth of parts in each one. Looks to me like they have all been ridden hard and put up wet!

I've had the same sort of experiences lately at auctions. I don't get it, but there it is. Seems like the only bargains that exist at auctions anymore are either at the auctions I don't go to, or the ones where I'm trying to sell something.

The price sounds about in line with what salvage dealers will pay. They have far more contacts and ways of making profits than most of us do. alvinnms
