My Allis Chalmers WD needs new points in it. I have the points but need someone to put them in. I had mechanic to do it but he never showed. Looking for someone that knows what they are doing and will due it for around $20.00. I live in Avoca, NY. Thanks!

If I wasn't halfway across the country I'd be thrilled to do it for you.

I don't often get the chance to work on an engine that isn't electronic this or electronic that. Cussed things have taken a lot of fun out of ownership.

About ownership/operation and not being able to change points, my brother has driven a tractor thousands of hours, but wouldn't know what the inside of a distributor is supposed to look like. I guess that is why he has a little brother and two sons.

What the one poster failed to realize is that you may have lost your fingers serving your country as a soldier and simply can't do the job. Whatever reason, I sure wish I could give you a hand and not pain in the butt like some.

I sure appreciate some of your comments and support. Just because you are not able to change out points dose not mean that you can't run a tractor. I wish there was someone near me that would be willing to help me out.

It occurred to me that if you stopped by my house (which has several tractors visible, so I'm obviously a tractor guy), and asked me for a little help, I'd be glad to do it- so maybe you could find someone in your area as well? And you're not asking for charity- I'd make good wages installing points and a condensor for 20 bucks. Maybe take a little drive around the neighborhood one of these days. . .

Avoca N.Y that is the only place I went that still had the old fachioned operator assisted local calls, this was in the 80's. I was at some plant that manufatured the production lines that put wax on the supermarket fruit. I forget their name.

Hello Martin in the beautiful Southern Tier of New York. I can't believe the lack of compassion
exibited by the other posters here. They don't take into consideration that there probably is a reason that you can't do the job yourself. I was an Allis dealer many years ago about two counties to the West of you. Now retired I'm out here on the treeless plain of Northern Colorado trying to hang on by my toenails in this wind. If I was your neighbor I'd come over and do it for free just so I could ratchet my jaw with you. By the way, a screw holder is handy to start those pesky little fasteners for guys with big fingers like me.

I am very disapointed with the people on this website. And for your information I have been running tractors for years with no accidents. I have ran a Farmall 1206, an Oliver 88, Allis WD, Allis D21, and many dozers. I am not capable of installing the points myself. Thanks but no thanks. I am discusted.

Turn the engine over with the hand crank until the points open. Install the points, set them for about 20 thousandths. Plugs at about 30 thousandths. If you need more info- or if you don't - buy the OPERATOR manual, about $15. Tells you everything you need to know for basic tractor operation. If you can't handle basic tractor maintenance- you can't handle basic tractor operation, and will hurt yourself or someone else.

How can you say this with out knowing his situation. It may be some thing as simple as his age has gotten to where small parts are hard to handle.
Besides;
how many people drive a car every day and know nothing more than how to put gas in it.
how many operators can blue top a grade smoother than your table top but can not work on the dozer.

If I could find someone to do it inexpensively and quickly I'd pay to have points and condenser changed - those little screws are a hugh pain in the neck and lots of times the oil filter is in the way. In todays world one probably can't afford to have them changed so you end up having to do it yourself. Just my 2 cents (and I've been running tractors for 40 years).

do you know the whole story- or do you like walking in another man's shoes? bet you are a lousy neighbor, based upon the assumption that you feel the guy is helpless. he may be, but what are his circumstances?

watch what you sow. might come back to you sometime.

Martin, I wish i could be your neighbor. Only a couple of my neighbors ever ask me for help. They usually want to borrow something or want my opinion or advice and that makes me feel good. After seven back surgeries, knee surgery, and several other pokings and invasions, i'm not good for anything physical but my arms, hands, eyes(after cataract surgery), and brain still work pretty good. And being able to put points in a tractor or rebuild a carburetor or anything to help someone out makes me feel better than all the medicine and painkillers i've ever taken . Some other people should try this. Sorry to be so long, but some of this needed to be said. THANKS MT. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

Martin Why not ask a local kid around there to give you a hand or put ad in local shopper paper!! There are people around you that belong to the finger lakes two cylinder club or other tractor groups that would be more than glad to help out.I am up in Elba or I would volunteer to give you a hand!!!
