I have a 1988 John Deer model #1050 compact tractor with loader and Wood #70 backhoe attachment. I have had to replace the "Split Frame" transmission gasket twice because it was leaking. I was told by the local John Deer service people that this is a common problem when using a backhoe attachment on these split frame tractors. Does anyone know how to:
a] Stop the trans leak without splitting the frame? b] Would a subframe for the Woods backhoe help? As opposed to a 3-point hookup.
c] What manufacturer's offer Compact Tractors made in the last 10 years or so that do NOT have a split frame?

Thank You

The only way to fix it is to split the trans case. The use of a subframe is the recomended mounting procedure for a hoe. When the 650-1050's came out, a subframe hoe was all you get from Deere. You are lucky with just a leak,I have had them in the shop with cracked cases and rockshaft housings broken off completely from 3pt hoes.

Thank You for the tip. I guess my next question would be what are the typical costs to split the frame and replace the gasket on a J.D. 1050 with a loader.
