Some say they would add five gallons of gas to a tank of about 150 gallons, diesel fuel, or 40% kerosene. I say add only a modest amount of mfg.approved additives. What do you think? Not my view below, however he may be right.
Flash point isn't that important, infact you raised the cetane rating making the fuel easier to light. It's not a gasoline engine where detonation is a concern. A diesel gets fuel injected when combustion is supposed to start.

A little bit of gas isnt going to cause any catastrophic failure but i wouldnt use it on a regular basis because it IS hard on injection system componets. There is clearances so tight in injecton system that if you touch some componets with your fingers you can ruin the machined surfaces enought that they will stick or lock up, so lubrication is important. Gas cuts down the lubricity of diesel and because of the way sulfer is taken out of diesel in the US the lubricity is already pretty low. Around here the diesel shops strongly recomend running #2 all year and using a fuel stabalizer like Power Service (PS)or Stanadyne has some good stuff i cant remember the name but it comes in a bottle with a green and white label. Another benifit to the additives is it will increase fuel economy some where as in my experience gas will tend to cut it down.

I know of two VW rabbit desiels owners who told me thr owners manual recomended adding one gallon of unleaded gasoline to twenty gallons of #2 desiel. I remember several years ago, maybe about fifteen some new truck owners told me that the manufacturer recomended one gallon of unleaded to twenty gallons of diesel when a winter blend was not available. I have seen some of these guys actually mix their fuel this way and they got a lot of service out of those trucks.

If one has to add gasoline to his diesel fuel, he has a problem with his engine. The only fuel additive I use is LUCAS conditioner, mainly for the injector benefit. But even with this the ratio, of additive and diesel fuel, its like putting a drop of alcohol in a glass of water.

I agree GG. Mixing gas into diesel is not a sound idea. Most diesel engine mfgrs recommend mixing a maximum of 10% kerosene with diesel in winter. After reading some of the posts I now think my diesels are extremely good, as I never need to resort to these extreme measures. I always buy winter blend fuel in the fall to refill my bulk tank, after allowing the tank to empty around September and I always buy from Co-op to get the best quality diesel sold.

Try running your diesel at -30 below and you'll find out there are times when additives comme in mighty handy!
