Does Yanmar really make the engines and trannies for John D? If this is true then are the Yanmar tractors good for the small house/farm or not?

Certainly correct information here so far. Yanmar has made engines, tractors, and/or tractor components for Deere for a long time. They are excellent tractors. But to the original quesition about Yanmars being good for house/farm etc, you have to dig further -

Most Yanmars you see for sale used in the US are grey market Japanese machines, reconditioned for use here. This is a whole separate ball of wax, since the parts and service of these units cannot be performed by a Deere dealer. Also keep in mind that the grey market Yanmars are usually 20-30 yrs old.

I've got a JD 950 with a brush hog loader, Yanmar diesel. As said in other posts, the engine is bullet proof!! My only complaint is the brush hog loader is slooooow.
I don't think your gas is a Yanmar engine. Larry NE IL

I have a JD 900HC that, according to the tags on the engine and tractor, was made entirely by Yanmar.

I have a JD 750 compact with the Yanmar engine. At work, we have a Takeuchi TD25 trackhoe, also with a Yanmar engine. Both have been absolutely bullet proof.

If there was a dealer within a reasonable distance, I'd buy a Yanmar in a heartbeat.

I have an old Yanmar that Deere sold years ago that was painted a light/bright green. It has been very dependable. I have a Yanmar Diesel in my Gator and couldn't ask for a better engine. It has around 3000 hrs on it and still starts right up at zero degrees just on the glow plugs like it did when it was new.

I have a 970 J.D. it has Yanmar diesel with about 1200 hrs on it. It has given good service so far, has power steering and is easy to handle and very light on fuel. Only problem is that it is very light on the front end.

Just wondering what other engine you are comparing the yanmar to on fuel consumption. We have a 935 front cut John Deere mower with a yanmar diesel it is rated at 23 hp. We have a 2100 kubota that we run right beside it. The kubota is only suppose to be 21 horse but will run circles around the deere on only about half the fuel. The yanmar does start and run smother than the kubota. Just my thoughts. Jake

Farmall H & Jubilee Ford which are about the same H.P. but weigh more ( the are both gas burners which might not be compared to diesel ) I am happy with 970 as fuel tank only holds 8.5 gallons and it will run quite a long time.

Your 322 gas is not a Yanmar engine.

Mother Deere owns Yanmar. The econo 770? and 990 are Yanmars painted green. Other models such as 4000/5000 have some components built to spec and assembeled in Agusta with other world wide sourced parts.
