Building a fence sprayer?

I run a two strand electric fence around about 10 acres, and it works real good except for vegetation growing up to the fence in the summer. Currently, to keep the grass under the fence down, I walk around the fence with a hand held sprayer and make lots of trips back and forth to refill.

What I'd like to do is use a 55 gallon drum of a three point setup to run an electric pump with a tractor and not have all the trips. Other than the pump, hose to a boom or spray wand, the nozzles, maybe a strainer- to keep junk out of the nozzles. What else do I need? Do I need to run a pressure gauge? Should I also use tip or nozzle strainers? How about ball valves to shut it off or just kill the switch? I want to put something together that works fairly well but I don't have much experience with spraying fields and such. I figured for all the more I'll use it it's not worth several hundreds for a commercial unit. Any ideas and hints would be appreciated.

The on demand pump has a built in on/off switch that cuts the pump on at low pressure and off at high pressure. During operation the valve on the hand wand would control the pressure so to say so when you want to spray pump is on and no spray pump is off. Nortern and Tractor supply are typical places to purchase these.

Go to a farm supply store and get a 15 gallon electric sprayer. Put it on a carry all on the back of your tractor. Mount a pipe underneath the center of your tractor that sticks out to the side and put a no drip nozzle on the end of the pipe. Put a toggle switch in the wire of the pump and mount it where you can reach it. I sprayed about 300 acres of tree saplings we planted last year like this and it would be the same thing, except you would be spraying fence row instead of tree rows. Works good for me.

On demand electric pump, strainer on the pickup hose in the drum, a few feet of hose and the wand from your hand sprayer will get the job done,

Ok, by on demand pump, what do you mean and where can I get? Does it just come on when the pressure drops or does it run all the time? Thanks for the comeback.

Dieselrider, I built a sprayer to pull behind my lawn mower. I used a RV pump.(travel trailer)They are 12 volts, have a built in pressure switch ,and pipe connections are hose bib.(garden hose) Should cost about 80$. I used 30 gallon plastic barrel and put the spray hose off my 2 gallon sprayer on it. Hook to battery with alligator clips and I have in line switch for pump so I don't get sparks when I hook to battery. Buy chemical at TSC. Same as Roundup, but a lot cheaper. Ride and spray. Makes me smile. Steve Norwood.
