I can't answer your question but think the dump is in the sump. Not sure if there is a "low side" plug on the side of the casting where you can tap in....I do know there are high side plugs.

But I am glad you are asking the question to maybe save your life from putting it in the high side. I know we forumed some questions not long ago and I don't remember if you were the one asking or not.

If your NH parts man is an old timer he can offer lots of tips.

I wouldn't put it in the pump suction line as it would (probably) cause your pump to cavitate and not work properly.

Sorry I don't have the answer.

Naw man. The 2 lines down the side are high pressure output from the pump to the lift and fluid return to the sump from the lift. I know this because one of my tractors has a hydraulic filter buried in the bottom of the sump and it is in the return line and filters the fluid as the last thing done before the fluid enters the sump. Kinda stupid to filter after the fact, but not so stupid when you consider there is no pressure at that point.

To answer your question about a high pressure filter, my Deere has 2 pressure systems. 1 the 2500 psig 24 gpm pressure line to operate all hydraulics. 2. The 150 psig system that circulates hydraulic fluid to the cooler in front of the radiator and back. The filter is in this line and it is a cartridge filter.....get this....with a 4" dia steel cover with a wall thickness of about .100 inch. can't emagine how thick that cover would have to be if it were in the 2500 psig high press line.

I really don't know where to tell you to put it so that it is functional and convenient for installation....my philosophy is if it has one ok, if not I just change the fluid every year or two (depending on shedded/use/weather and all) and don't worry about it.....remember boom! Is it worth it?

Mark do you think screwing a pressure gage into each port will be a good way of telling which port is high pressure?

McMaster-Carr has a pressure filter see the link below. Do you think that would work OK? The price is right.

Yes

Northern tool has them too. I think that is where I got mine.

Get some adapters, angles and short pieces of 1/8 to 1/4 pipe to adapt to places the gauge won't physically fit.

Mark Thanks! Yes we discussed this before I will call the dealer and see if they can help. Do you think installing a 3000psi gage in to the ports could help to figure out the High and low side?

I have 3 Fords so I get confused sometimes, but at least one of them has a plug on the side of the housing indicating the high press. I think the high press is forward. I used a gauge before (suprised how cheap they are for their range) but don't remember where I installed it....I think at the pump output port on the pump....it was easy to read there.

But yeah, pull a plug and stick in the gauge. There is nothing in the tractor that will overpressure that.
