I need opinions regarding a Case 970 with a powershift transmission. Are these solid trannys? Anything in particular to check for? I'm looking at one that is in excellent shape, and has a new Allied Loader on the front. Price is 12,000 Firm. Is that a fair price? I appreciate your opinions.

Sounds like this price is to high. I think I'll keep looking. I'm in no rush, just thought I'd like a cab tractor with loader, 3pt, and heat for feeding cows and moving snow next winter. Thanks for the replies!

I bought a 1976 "white" 970 with approx. 3800 hours in 1997 and had a new Allied loader and grapple installed at the same time. The total package was $9000 from a local dealer. Have never had a problem with the transmission. Since then, I've seen nice 970 / 1070's selling at auctions for around $4500...so I guess I paid all it was worth at the time.

Sounds very high unless it is a cherry. There is one in a local Trader paper in Southern Illinois for @$4000. The tranny is very good if taken care of and not abused like down shifting going full steam ahead on pavement!!

I agree it sounds high to me, however you haven't told us what year it is, nor how many hours it has on it. That can make a big difference.

I bought a 1972, 3,000 hr, power-shift, 1070 Case
in 1977 for $10,500 without a loader. It was a slick tractor condition wise.

The power-shift did fail after about one year, but after the rebuild it never gave another hint of a problem until I sold it in 1983. The rebuild was around $600 at the time, transportation to the dealer included.

I liked the transmission. Later I drove a 2390 with power-shift and it was just fine too.

I think you would like it on a loader tractor.

Sorry, I don't know the year, but it is the tan and orange color, not white and orange. The hours are around 4000, and that is the correct hours. It has a very nice cab with heat and air conditioning. Rubber is about 40% on rear and 80% on front. Thanks for the reply.
