Why does it seem that almost every compression test result shows #3 as the low cylinder. I just noticed that it seems to be #3 eveytime anyone reports compression numbers.

If you go to www.satan.com and divide his favorite number, ie: 666, by 222, you get 3, which is why the #3 cylinder always goes bad, just like on my D17!!!!! !!! Of course, it might be because of the guy that did the overhaul a few years ago..... ..just like the overhaul on the 3020, and I don't deal with him anymore, even if he's my third cousin! (which is TRUE).

Had a '57 Volkswagon that kept burning the #3 exhaust valve. Put new heads on it and the #3 exhaust valve in those heads burned also.

The VW hung the oil cooler over #3 cylinder. Therefore #3 cylinder ran warmer with less and hotter air.

VW oil cooler exit outside of fan shroud about 1972?, #3 a bit cooler then. RN

I'm gonna guess it is because coolant enters from the front so the front gets flushed first and last and the most.

First one the sh*t or grit flies into? Perhaps that one runs richer than the rest - well, ok, it will probably on a spark ignition engine, as the fuel distribution will not be perfect and the rest will even out due to some turbulence in those old manifolds. Running a little hotter than the others due to cooling system build-up (or cooler due to mixture differences).
Need I think of any more?

Try going over to the John Deere board. They don't have that problem over there. Why? you ask.

Yeh, Mike, and we better hope that J D drivers never figure out how to hook up those other two cylinders or us red guys could be in trouble. I think if they did they just might have a real tractor there. Harley

There's somebody with Cub comp readings on the Farmall board, and it is #3 again.
