Didn't stick around for the whole thing. Did get a chance to meet Bernie from Mass and his grandson, Matt. This was Gray's Auction in Fairlee, VT.
Farmall H, rough, ran okay - $1600
Ford 2N, nice all around - $1025
Farmall M, REAL nice - $1125
JD flail mower, looked rough - $350
JD side delivery rake, looked rough - $800
Ford 861 Powermaster, extra nice - $1900
NH 276 baler w/kicker - $225
IH 3800 Loader & hoe (4WD), rough - $5000
AC 645 loader, very nice looking & running - $7500
Dual axle electric tilt trailer, new - $2550
JD 850 w/loader & 3PTH, 1500 hrs, not running - $4700
IH 450 w/loader, decent shape - $2000

I thought 'most all the tractors except the H went way low. They practically had to beg somebody to bid on that baler. If I'd had a way to get it home....
Funny thing about that H, it was about to be sold for $1000 and a woman way back in the crowd started bidding and got it up to $1600 before letting it go the guy who thought he had it for $1000.

I was curious about the 40' JLG boom lift. Do you know what it went for?

I was in Thetford Friday but couldn't stick around for the auction.

Thanks Les, I think that the M's are still a bit underappreciated in this neck of the woods. As a small boy I remember the "Badato" farmers in Aroostock county cranking them for all they were worth on the harvesters, and plowing snow with them all winter.

Les

Unfortunately, could not get away today to go to the sale. But, if I had, that baler and M would have gone home with me at those prices. Maybe
a good thing :>

Thanks for the posting
Bruce

Les....Fortunate. Grey's auction. A Farmall M for 1125?? Real Nice? I wish I was there on that one. I have gone to the auction there many times but most of the time I think things are high and mostly beat up equipment and junk. Has it gotten better? Thanks for the auction update. I really enjoy your posts on any topic. Dick, Sheffield, Vt.

Yeah, some of the stuff is pretty junky but there seems to be a lot of really decent stuff, too. It would appear to me that the prices for antique, or "classic" maybe I should say, tractors is dropping. Maybe all the yuppy/hippy market has finally been saturated with 8Ns!
There were an awful lot of cars and a few trucks there yesterday. You'd be taking quite a risk to buy one of them, I would think.

Wow, a whole bunch of you Vermont guys came out of the woodwork!
On the lift, I did see it sell and I think it went for what I would consider to be high but I had no interest in it so didn't pay much attention or write it down.
I grew up going to Gray's auctions in East Thetford. That was always a treat when dad would take us there. My brothers and I still laugh about the people and the funny things they said and did, 50 years later. That auction would be held every Monday, no matter what. Didn't matter if it was Christmas Eve, 4th of July or grampa's funeral.
I don't believe I'll be able to get to another one there until maybe October or November.
OBTW, I did bid on one item: a Planet Jr. cultivator that was all original and ran good and had obviously been well cared for. It went for $75. I knew the guy who brought it in. I wish I had known he wanted to sell it earlier. I would have given him $75 for it and saved somebody the 6% VT sales tax and saved him the commission.
I told Herbie Gray that he should sell that field and buy one across the river in Orford, NH and let VT take its sales tax and put it where the sun don't shine. ":^O
