I'm just a bit concerned, I sent this person a check for a tractor, who advertises on Photo Ads and wondering if there is anyone out there that has ever dealt with him before. Does he sell good equipment and answer phones calls back. I hate to think I got taken.

From what I have heard he would screw his own neighbor if he got the chance. He used to advertise in the Indiana Auto RV. There was a thread about him on this site several months ago.

I knpw nothing of the person you are talking about. I did however buy a tractor that I only saw pictures of off the internet. The gentleman I bought the tractor off of was very honest and described the tractor fairly accurately, however he didn't know much about tractors and it did have a few problems I didnot count on. I have to replace the rear rims that is costing me way more than I counted on.
Overall my experience was good, I did figure into the equation a few added repairs when I bargained for the price of the tractor.
I've found that the largest majority of the people I've found on the net are very honest and would deal with them again in a heartbeat!
Befor I send anyone money I try to get a feeling of that person by talking with them on the phone, I know that isn't unfoulable but I think it helps.

Sounds like you need to make a trip to Ohio. Bring your copy of your canceled check and go to pick up your tractor camp out if you have to if that doesn't work go vist the local sheriff and see if they can help. Don't let one bad apple ruin the tractor sales market. Several people have sent me checks site unseen for tractors I sold on ebay this suprised me very much as I would of thought they would want to see them first. But I was not out to rip anyone off and they got good tractors for thier money.I was getting worried one might not ever come pick up his even though it was paid for, eventually he sent someone after it.

You bought a tractor you've never seen from a guy you don't know and you wonder if you got taken (implying he took advantage of you).

The way I see it, you "took" yourself by being foolish and demostrating a complete lack of common sense.

If you sent the check recently it will have to clear at his bank before he gets the money so stop the payment on the check through your bank. Unless he has already cashed it and it cleared. Thats if it is a personal check. Thats the good thing about checks though. You can cancel payment.

SJ, Thats what you get when you buy a two humped Camel when a one humper would do just as well. Another thing, go easy on the bricks as extreem contact results in excess intake of water.

Why would you ever send someone a check for a tractor WITHOUT seeing and trying out the tractor first? You probably have lost your money. Now be sure you do not repeat these mistakes again.

He's got a reputation of being a crook,he recently changed the name of his bussiness.
I drove 150 miles to look at a tractor he lied
about, several other people complained about him
when his name was brought up before. He doctors
up old tractors and sells them as one owner.

Bill: He is a bit different. For a guy in sales he has yet to learn, the man with the money is right. We didn't get to point of sending money.

He sold my neighbor a 25 year old Yanmar, probably a really used up tractor from Viet Nam, convinced him it was a scratch and dent last years model. When he tore it up, Tim was no longer a dealer, so he couldnt get parts!

Bill: What I and a few others have noticed is as soon as you question even a very minor item about a tractor or point out to him something that doesn't add up he refuses to answer phone or e mails. He must have call monitor on his phone.

I notice lately he no longer wants to connunicate by e mail. Kind of a dark ages attitude in the 21st century.
