Hello All, What brands or models of pulltype swathers (for small grain) have proven to be the best ones out there? Does anyone have experience with the Honeybee swather? Any thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks.
Z

Zoidberg; why are you wanting to swath them, just combine them direct and be done with it,saves another trip and another pickup head for the combine. i will be doing more oats today, got the wheat done rye done and hopefully will finish the oats by the weekend. Rick

Hi, we are cutting these oats for hay. The draper swather seems to be the easiest way to preserve the grain and have something valuable when the whole process is complete. We always windrow the oat before combining as well to assure complete dry down and get it into a windrow before a storm. Kind of a regional thing probably. Thanks

We thought about that but since we have a disc mower that solution is out. We use the C-IH 8312 for hay and it is the best cutting machine I've ever been around but it is too rough for oats. Thanks for the thought.

Zoidberg no the hay bine was geeat with the oats. With the rollers removed , the reel and sickle bar cutter was gentle and it also placed them in a nice windrow. And the combine picked them up with ease with little if any loss

The later model MacDon PT machines have been very good. They have that slick end transport system that converts from road to work position in seconds. The drive system is simple and reliable with no chains or gear boxes. I have run the John Deere badged model(590) for over 10 years and there are plenty of MacDon premier models and Case IH seven series(721-725-730) in use around here. I love the fact that only the decals and paint are different,so I can go to the IH or MacDon dealer to get parts for my "John Deere" swather. Has saved the day several times when the Green dealer was out of an item. IH uses a slightly different shape guard, but they work fine on a JD or Mac Don premier if you use the IH bolts. Have no experience with a Honey Bee swather, but have several Honey Bee draper combine headers in the area that do well.

There is a lot of good information in your post. Thanks for the time and effort. We will take this knowlege as we go looking for a machine. The fact that this is so much commonality among the machines is good news.
