I am the proud owner of a 2n that I bought to use around my place in SE AZ.After using it for about 3 yrs, it would not power up after starting.(this became hard also).I got out my trusty manuel to try and find out what the problem might be. That is when I discovered that the tractors were originally made with positive ground sytems. Mine is neg.ground. What had to be done to switch ground polarity and should I switch it back? Could this be why I can't get it to charge?Any and all help will be GREATLY appreciated. Thank U

Perhaps this would be a good time to switch to a 12 volt system with alternator and fresh wiring...

Seems that maybe your throttle linkage is no longer connected to the carb ?

If 6v and still has the original type generator, it would just need to be repolerized to whatever you want - n or p ground. I personally much much prefer one keeps it the way it came from the factory, so everyone knows how it should be.

If it was converted to 12v, then to be honest it could be any which way at all, very hard to speculate, tho most all 12v conversions become n ground with a $15 alternator. But other things are possible, so you need to explain what exactly you have for the entire electrical system.

What exactly do you mean by 'it would not power up' after starting. It runs, but only at idle? It has no power to pull anything? Or?

Thanks Paul
As to the electrical system,it still has the one wire,6v generator. The single wire has been disconected since I got the tractor, except for when I tried to get it to work.Since I could not,I took it back off and it has been off ever since. Now I have the time and I'm trying to make it right. As to the power, it will only run at idle and dies when I try to move it.It will not increase rpm no matter how high I move the throttle. Richard, We need more info. Has your tractor been converted from 6 to 12 volt ? Does it have an alternator rather than a generator on it ?
