I see many farmers replacing their 18.4x38" tires with the new 42 or 46". I am looking to bump up our Moline M5 to 18.4 x 38" from old 34". Anyone got 18.4x38 with nice tread? Radials are even ok. What's with all the super tall ones these days? Working well huh?

Around here the ones going to 42/46 are generally sugar beet farmers, who plant in 22 inch rows. They want taller, narrower tires to give good traction in the narrower rows. Less rubber width on the ground needs bigger diameter to maintain same traction. They go to 22 inch corn/soybean planters as well, like their beet planters, so the same tractor & equipment (cultivator, sprayer) can be used on all crops.

Make sure you can get rims first. Taller tires are useless w/o rims.

All set with 16" x 38" rims and centers for M-M hubs. Just need the tires. Hoping guys bumping up from 38" to larger would be selling their old 38" tires.

Good luck! Taller tires will gain you more traction and better flotation. Especially if you can luck out and get some radials. Only difficulty is probably most people aren't changing until the old tires are wore out.
