Mornin',

I've got an invatation to run one of my old tractors in a parade next weekend.

Find myself considering it this morning.

I'm such a lone wolf that I can't believe I'm even thinking about it.

Hmmmm, am I gettin' old? Or, just older? :>)

Allan

It may depend on whether you get a kick out of waving at people you know, kiddin" them a little when they kid you, etc. I have ridden horses in parades, which is a little more edgy because you"ve got to watch out for your life as well, but had a good time. I"ll be driving the Cockshutt 35 in the local parade just as soon as it"s done. If you"re not too keen on drawing the attention, you might check with the parade organizer ahead of time and see if there"s a group that needs conveyance in the parade- bring a wagon with bales, let them decorate, etc.- the focus will be on them, not you, but you still get in on the fun of the event.

Darnit Leland!!!

Now why in the world did ya have to go and bring that old haunt up? I've been trying to forget that traumatic episode ever since 1959!!

She was rated a very strong 17 out of a possible 10; still is, the last time I got an eyeful of 'er.

Anyway, when she said, "Go for it", dumb ole me had absolutely no idea of what in the heck she was talking about.

It's not easy being retarded, ya know. :>)

I've run my JD 'B' in parades several times, had a ball. And I live out of town and keep pretty much to myself too. If we don't show off our old tractors, cars, and trucks, where is the interest in them going to come from in the future? I've been to too many auctions where they unloaded the sheds, and people were saying, Man, I wish I"d known he had one of those. Only if we put our toys on display, will interest and want be generated in the future. John in Nebr.

John -
I think you hit the nail on the head. I just started a tractor club in my small area. While none of us are real crazy about public events one of our goals is to get the equipment out in front of the public. Come 9/11/04 we have 12 tractors signed up to be in the local parade. None of them are beauty queens, alls just working rigs. Then in Oct is the local fair (9 days) and we are wanting to set up static displays. It is our hope by doing this we can attract some interest for the future.

Last weekend! in reply to Allan in NE, 08-22-2004 07:41:00
Also recieved an invatition to make a showing at our local town celebration. Thinking about putting one in, then friday evening, I found out I could have several drivers. Ended up taking four tractors, and a couple plows. A lot of last minute cleanup and waxing! Not sorry I did it now.

I have considerd doing the same several times, actually did it once, but I would much rather watch the parade than to be in it.

We all are getting older,it is when you get old the problems start. Go ahead and drive in the parade. Have some fun while you can.
