Can you use that 100,000 mile antifreeze in a vehicle that now uses regular antifreeze? Would be nice if I never had to change the antifreeze ever again.

Hi Randy,

You didn't say what your going to use it in. That makes a huge difference.

Zerex Go-5 is 5yr 100k for diesels with no SCA testng required. Ford used it since 2002.

I’ve been told to stay away from the pink stuff in sleeved diesel engines as it promotes the pinhole effect in wet sleeve engines. One day you’ll check the oil only to find what appears to be milk - oil & water mixed together. The reason tiny holds drilled in the bottom of your sleeves.

You want to use only the green stuff with an additive. I’ve also heard that adding a water filter can also help.

I spent almost $1000 to replace the water pump on a 1994 Chrysler product shortly after I used one of the long- life anti-freeze solutions in it. The seal failed. Now I use the long-life products only in vehicles that very specifically mention approval of the use of the long-life. No more Chrysler stuff for me either. There are no honest dealers in my area for those brands.

I think the statement about no honest Chrystler dealers could be shorted to no honest dealers. Oh sure,, you'll have good luck with a dealer 20% of the time.

BD,

Bet I know what you drive! Isn't that just about the smartest set-up yet?

Haveta pull the tranny to change a water pump. Geeeze!

Who was the knuckle-headed engineer that dreamed up that one anyway?

Or, like the high end GMs with starter mounted inside the engine. Go figure.

It’s no wonder we like old tractors!

Hmmmm,

Let me understand this, just so I don't make any mistakes here.

So, say if I were to say something to the effect that President Bush's belt size is four times larger than John Kerry’s here-to-date demonstrated IQ level, then this would be considered to be in poor taste?

DEX-COOL is a great product. It's now a 150K change interval. Of course you can use it in an older (pre '95) vehicle that was not a factory fill.

However, you cannot mix DEX-COOL with green coolant. So you must flush the entire cooling system for 20 minutes with a garden hose. This includes the recovery jar. Then fill with DEX-COOL and DISTILLED water.

You will hear from some that DEX-COOL caused problems. This is wrong. All so-called DEX-COOL problems are caused by either...

1) Allow a cooling system to leak and not keeping it topped off until the leak can be corrected.

2) Many people who don't know any better top-off the recovery jar with green coolant because they are too ignorant to read the DEX-COOL warning label under the hood. If they are ever mixed, the entire system must be flushed per the instructions above. If you allow others to service your vehicle, you can buy the warning sticker from any GM dealer.

DEX-COOL is not anywhere near as good as the claims. Talk to any GM tech. and then talk to the people who run the extended warranty companies. They can tell you horror stories.

Well I guess my radiator in my '98 Dodge is going to fall off. Have been mixing for the last several years.

If Dex Cool is exposed to oxygen from a faulty rad cap etc. It will decompose in short order.

Don"t do it !! GM has used this since mid 90"s marketed under DEX-COOL this stuff is a joke it will plug up faster turns to mud fast and eat up your water pump seals. And belts once it leaks on them.

For non poisonous antifreeze that won't kill pets, wildlife and kids use propylene glycol instead of ethylene glycol. About the same price too. Won't ruin bearings if some leaks into the crankcase as well. Long life or not, test the coolant with a ph test strip yearly. A slightly seeping head gasket etc will turn new coolant acid in short order. Of course mix with distilled or demineralized water. Tap water always contains disolved minerals that will plate out in the cooling system and affect the ph of the coolant.
