How long will it take to pay for that $10,000 diesel option in your pickup at those prices?

I do not understand how diesel fuel can be higher priced that gasoline, it takes less refining, less cost to produce diesel fuel.
It still will not take long to pay for my diesel engine.
1.17-20 mpg with my power stroke compared to 10 with my gas engine.
2. 2-300,000+ miles of life compared to 150-200,000 on normal gas engines.

It will take a while for the $20 to $30 dollars a week to cover the diesel option and interest cost. About 7 to 10 years at best before breaking even. Not a whole lot of life left in the truck by that age any place they use salt on winter roads. Or anywhere else for that matter.

got an old 1983 chevy out back that is as good as can be. used to be in Nebraska, now in Illinois, not rusted out. Watchit though, you are starting to sound like my dad, if it is not a farm tractor, don't need to be a diesel. :)

Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. 2 months ago diesel was anywhere from .08 to .12 less than regular unleaded. A couple weeks ago, it was .03 to .05 higher. Now it has dropped back to about the same or slightly lower than regular unleaded. N TX prices.

Here in NC it's going just a few cents below the regular grade. Last I saw it was running around $1.82. I did see one Pilot station last week that sets right beside the interstate that had it for $1.95.

Here in Northern Virginia, diesel is still a little lower than gasoline but it all has gone up considerably.

Up here, diesel is selling for 6 cents less per litre (Cdn $) than regular grade gas (about 68 vs 74 cents per litre Cdn). Converting over to US dollars and the US gallon gives us about $1.92 US per gallon for diesel and $2.10 for gasoline. The refinerys are about 3 miles away from my service station where I fill up.

on-road diesel here is 20 cents/liter less than regular gas. Doesn't take long to pay for a diesel with those prices.

Yes diesel is very high right now. I agree the price is probably up because of some going to heating oil now.

I paid 1.759 last night, about the same price as Mid-Range Unleaded. I guess they are starting to divert some of the Diesel for heating oil. We are lucky here, the main pipeline & tankfarm are here, so our fuel is a little cheaper due to reduced transportation costs.
