We are looking to tow a 14,500 pound 450 B on a dovetail triple axle trailer. We have a pinnacle reese type hitch. Will this truck pull the dozer ok?

I don't know where you guys get the idea you can pull that kind of load with a pickup no matter how bad you think your little dually is. This is a commercial load. You need a truck with a load rating of at least 5 tons, that means a truck that weighs at least 12,000 lbs empty. You also need a CDL. Although the pickup might have the power to pull the load if it doesn't twist its axles off first, it's a case of the tail wagging the dog big time. I'm gonna start alerting the cops every time I see one of these ridiculous rigs on the road. Just so you know, the fine is $2000.00 for pulling a trailer over 10,000 lbs without the correct combination GVWR and CDL.
Thats my rave for the day.

with hitch you are talking about way too much weight on rear of truck ..if gooseneck would help..haul 14 5x6 round bales on a gooseneck but not very far, has 3 axles with brakes ..remember easy to move but hard to stop, might not just be your life you take but someone also...have nice day may god bless

I've had 20k lbs behind a '95 GMC K2500 Diesel. 'bout 34 miles round trip.
Would I do it again? Not on your life!

Sure, I got it up to 55mph...took a while. Took damn near as long to slow it back down...

Did used to haul corn for a guy with a 1 ton Ford and a G/N dump wagon. I can't remember how much it wieghed, but that powerstroke took longer to get up to speed then the 6.5 in my GMC did, so I know we were over 20K. BUT, that trailer was set up with air/vaccuum brakes (not sure, I just drove it) Had amazing stopping power...

Find a heavy truck dealer that has rentals you can rent a 2 ton or larger truck for 100-150 a day alot cheaper than a fine or accident. do you have any idea how it would take to stop that dozer with a p-up even going only 30 mph

Way Overloaded !!!!! Accidents caused by hauling on overloaded trucks & trailers are the reason laws are getting so strict.... Everytime something happens, it gives DOT people more reason to tighten up the laws & the enforcement of them...

Krist,

You are way overloaded to go very far. 14,000 lbs. plus a little is about it for any size pick up.

You can move it, the real problem is getting it stopped.

What does the trailer weigh? You're talking near semi-trailer weight here. Probably close to 20,000 pounds towed weight! What's the CGVWR of the truck? Under 20,000, I'd bet..... ...and the truck is gonna weigh 6000 at least. Up here you also need the equivalent of your CDL for anything over 24,000 pounds combined weight.

Sure, it may pull it, but try stopping it!

The dozer weighs 14,500 and the trailer weighs probably 3k I was more worried about the reese pinnacle hitch since its rated at 12,000. The guy I bought this off of says he 1 ton truck rigged up like this will pull it just fine. I just wanted a second opinion.

Either you are under-estimating the weight of the trailer or it is way too light to haul such a load.
No way can a 3000 lb. trailer safely take a 14,500 lb machine. Unless maybe it was built from titanium or some exotic metal!

I"d probably try it down the gravel roads at slow speeds here in farm country for short haul now & then, but you are in big trouble if you get out on the highways with that setup as others are saying. Certainly not something you want to be on the road with every week or every day.

Hmmmmm, so you're gonna pull 17,500 on a hitch rated at 12,000? 5500 pounds overweight????? Know what the fine is for that much overweight? Does your driver's license allow you to pull that much weight? Hope you never have to scale, never get stopped by a cop that knows his/her stuff, and that your insurance company is clueless when you get into an accident. Not meaning to be abrasive here, but that is just plain goofy. Lots of things to think about here. I might try it on a grid road at 20mph, but not on a public highway!

I assume you mean a pintle hitch that goes in a reese reciever, if so they are rated for 10000 lbs, not nearly enough for a 450. Trucks not enough either, sorry, not what you wanted to hear, nut the truth, Later, Nat
