The serial number reads as follows MX\FBK-19577X
going by the number it should be a 1949 model M because the 1949 model M's started with serial number 180514 my question is did some tractors serial number end with a X

Thanks for the info that explains why it only has a gasoline tank and not two seperate tanks after looking at the ID plate again it does have a 1 after the X "FBK-19577X1" also the ID plate list it as model"MX1" does that mean anything?

Its a 1940 with a gas engine,Someone probably stamped the other X1 on the wrong side.

If your using the X for an unreadable number, the yes its a 1949,if it ends in X then somethings not right. The number posted would be a 1940.if there is an X after it,it should have a number after it.There was no just plain "X" code, they atrted with X1.On Industirals it would be Y and on standards W

Hi Nick,

Yes, wasn't the "X" designating a dual fuel and the "X1" was a gasser only? Think that is how it went, anyway.

Allan

I think you are correct about the "X" being dual fuel. For sure "X1" does indicate a factory gasoline engine only. I just bought a W4 all fuel, and the serial # is 25***X
