I just purchased a B6000 4WD diesel garden tractor, seems about 14HP, everything seemed ok BUT I stopped to buy parts at the dealer the service tech told me that the 6000's were ok BUT that the bloody PTO spins backwards, man oh man I dropped a load in my pants right there, he said something about getting into the gearbox and reversing the direction by moving the gear from the bottom to the top. HAS ANYONE EVER ENCOUNTERED THIS??? I would like to keep the garden tractor but with a reversed PTO it is no good to me.

HELP....MIKE

I also have a b6000 that I just got. Do you know of any sites that have junk ones for parts. I need a new motor or a rebuild kit. It only runs on one cyl. And I didn't know about the pto. sorry no help here.

buyer beware I guess, when I looked at it I didn't even know that there was a grey market, I have always bought Deere's but really wanted a gear style drive rather than hydro, as soon as I bought it the term grey market started coming up, I guess I should have researched a little more, although I think the machine is a tough little contender pound for pound,

Mike do you know if the gearbox can be reversed?

Thanks
Mike

Wow, a tractor related question!

You might want to check at www.tractorbynet.com where they specilaze in compact tractors, have both Kubota & grey-market areas, and folks are still discussing tractor topics..... I'm sure someone would help, if not already in the many archives there.

I've heard the 6000 is one of the very few reverse pto machines, not familiar with how to correct it tho. I too prefer gear to hydro. Kubota is a good machine, aside from the one issue you got. Good luck.

Have you run it and actually seen that it turns in reverse?

Yes I have actually seen it run backwards, the dealer says it is not Grey market machine, and that the B6000 ran backwards, maybe Kubota intended to market an exclusive line of implements, I don't know, but right now I feel a little poor about it, Kubota certainly does not have the stunning parts support for older machines that JD has, I guess I assumed too much, I cant even find a clip on Air cleaner they have obsoleted it. My company still supports all parts on machines we sold 30 years ago. Well thanks for the advice, what a tremendous site and great users....Regards Mike

Kubota DID sell the tools that ran backwards for this machine. I have no idea where they would be found today though???

Those machines were not developed for the US market, and in some other countries back then, they ran there tools at different speeds and also some at a different direction.

That's one of the reasons why Kubota warns against buying grey market tractors.

Acc to the dealer it is not a grey market machine, it was just a backwards turning PTO.

Thanks

Mike
