The new design was looked at by a Design Engineer and he calculated the Load Stress on the Boom with 5,000 lbs on the tip. The upper support attachment Tension Pull Point at hitch was 21,000 lbs and and the Boom Compression Load was 23,500 lbs pushing with that load. That is well within the 5/8 bolts shear points and should be no problem on the 3/4 inch upper Link and 7/8 inch lower link mounts. Of course no way could you lift 5,000 lbs 6 ft away from the Back of the Link Arms so it meets it's 5 to 1 Safety Factor of a working load of 1,000 lbs, Tractor being on a Level Working surface. Looks good Mark.

You have to assume that the shear loading will be applied to one side of the bolted clevis pivot joint and that the shear line excludes the threaded portion of the fastener. If the bolted joint is loose then you will have combined stresses, both bending and shear, and that is a worse case senario as opposed to shear stress alone.

What are the lengths and angles of the structural members of the boom between the attachment points?

Glad to see you doing the in-depth study.

Top boom support 5 ft lower boom 6 ft hitch 20 inches between bolts holding support and boom. Hitch is made out of 2 1/2 X 1/4 inch Box steel. Boom is made out of 2 X 1/4 inch Box steel and the top support is two sections of 2 inch X 1/4 inch Angle Iron with double Shear points of 5/8" grade 8 bolts. All bolts on boom is in Double shear along with the top link. Only the lower link pins (7/8") are in single shear. There are 2 side bending liminting angle supports 3 ft long bolted into the sides of the hitch and boom made out of 2 X 1/4 inch Angle Iron. Both ends of the boom are pluged welded to stop distortion of the ends at the bolts. Brackets welded to the sides of the boom in the middle so the boom is not weakend by drilling a hole in it. Tip Lifting point is a 1/2" Case Harden D-Ring welded into 3/8 steel along with a 1/4" cap on the end of the box welded to it. The angle was either 22 or 27 degrees on the boom I can't remember right now. Mark H.
