Is LP more or less collectable?

It is starting to get to the time where it is going to be time to sell one of grandpa's tractors. The one we are thinking of selling (I won't list the model to protect myself from the classified Nazis) is an LP model. When discussing asking price with my father, we were neither one sure if factory LP makes the tractor more or less valuable. I know as a farming implement it is less, but what about from a collectors standpoint?

Thoughts?

Mike, the tractor is a CASE. Did they make a lot of LP models?

Ryan, I havw seen lots of LA Cases, Mostly wheatland models. There are LA-LP Cases fairly regular on the photo ads.

I think it would depend on the make. There are LP Molines everywhere, and they certainly don't sell at a premium. Other makes had very few, and have some premium- I was at a Cockshutt collector's auction a few years ago, and a factory LP model 30 or 40 brought over $6,000- topped the sale.

Ryan, It will depend on who is intrested, when you advertize it. Usually LP is less desireable for most guys don't, won't, or can't understand it. Also it is harder to put 5gal in it when it is out.
But I am an LP nut, So go figure!. Hope this helps.

John A.

Few if any LP tractors in the South here. But I am curious, will the same model tractor engine last longer if it is set up on LP. Reason I ask is, forklifts seem to last forever, running on LP.. I was told there was a fleet of Nissans still running well in a local plant, all with over 30,000 hours on them...

Yep,an engine running on dry gas like propane vapor will last almost forever. Propane vapor burns very clean, and with no liquid fuel going into the engine, you get no cylinder wall washing like a gasoline or diesel will do on a cold start. I repowered two 1950T Olivers with propane burning 454 Chevy engines around 25 years ago.Last year after over 6000 hours I had to remove a head on one of these engines to replace a head gasket. The cylinders still had hone marks to the top of the bore,so wear is near 0
