Why are the name brand companies having a hard time getting parts to their dealers this year? We thought it was just our problem, but am hearing more and more stories of the "back-ordered parts" syndrome. Whats going on in the parts dept..?

JIT inventory has a part in this also. Companies have figured out that parts inventory setting on the shelf doesn't make them any money. actually costs to maintain inventory (interest, building maintance etc.)

Manufacture is where JIT (just in time) realy takes effect. Parts aren't ordered until there is JUST enough time to make and deliver. Works good as long as there are no snags in the chain.

JIT delivery plays a big part in it but lets not forget, supply and demand.
If a shortage is created, demand is also created.
If you can't get a part you must have, or scrap the tractor, you won't mind spending that extra $100.00 for it and think you were lucky to get it.
Remember the gas shortages in the '80s. According to those in charge at the time we should be all driving bicyles now.
Remember Florida in the '70s, we had a construction material shortage, everything was going there so they said, anything that was still avaliable here cost more.

the problems are from the outsourcing of american jobs by corporate america because we keep trying to buy stuff cheaper by buying from china.

My theory on national security is that a certain portion of jobs should not be outsourced and some types not at all.

NOW what can be cheeper than $600.00 for a $50.00 part made in Mexico. I know $700.00 for a $40.00 part made in China.
