Hi Guys,

Can a feller still buy these clamp on duals? Used to be able to buy 'em from Co-Op, without getting skinned up too darned bad.

Thanks,

Allan

Bil in Colo....I would be interested in your 18x30's. Our daughter lives in Fort Collins and will take a trip to see our grandkids and pick up your tires at a truck stop or some place, let me know. Email is open. Thanks

You must truely be in dry country if a set that close to the inner tire works, would be useless without some mud room between the tires around here.

This happened in a field that had a creek rerouted always a few soggy spots and we had some ground you had to hit with a disk just so it would dry out before you could plant, had a lot of sand and clay like quick sand.

Paul even with hub mounted duals I have still ripped off valve stem on inside tire in mud with a foot gap between tires.

Allan,
got a good set of 18.4 X 38 clamp on duels of off a 1086. Dad sold tractor, Duals are still here. Do not have clamps that bolt to tractor, do have all the drawbolts. Tires are in good shape probably 60-70% tread left. Can get pictures if you wnat. The only drawback, they are in Central Illinois. He wants $250.00 for them, tires are worth more than that.
Jim

I haven't seen clamp on duals for many years, but the mounting system was never a big deal- the clamp might be a bit quicker, tho. I would not mount duals so close to the inside tire- they just ball up with mud after the first low spot. I made straddle duals for my planter tractor and combine- so they center between the rows, don't pack the row, and stay clean in the mud. With all duals, whether front tractor wheel or rear, or combine, I weld rings on the J-bolts, and tie the bolts together with a light chain, so if one comes loose, it does not get lost. Years ago I planted with a 3020, no cab, and could hear if one was loose, but with cab tractors I couldn't hear that, so now I don't lose any bolts. I make rings out of old field cultivator springs, cut lengthwise with the chopsaw.

Here's another idea. Drill a hole in the end of the J that goes through the clamp and insert a cotter key or lynch clip.

Allen, ever tried to take off a set of those after packed full of mud and cow or hog biosolids(or whatever stage yours was in)? If you did it once you go to town and get those 9 bolt axle hubs so fast that mama hardly has time to wash off the remains. I've got a set of 12 by 38 rims ready to go for ya I'll put a big "A" on the bucket full of clamps tomorrow. Migraine

Hi Migraine,

Oh sure, many times. I use the tractor to do it. A circle in each direction while tapping the brake. They'll jump right off of there. :>)

Two years ago at a neighbor's estate sale, 34, 38 inch duals went for $5 a wheel, tire and rim, no J-bolts. Guy was an auction jockey and at least two dozen wheels went unsold. $5 would have bought the whole lot. It was tempting!

Allan;

You could put a set of traks on it something like the bombadier traks they put on the little Fords. Is it warming up in your part of the world?
