I saw a tractor for sale in the photo ads a few days ago - a IH, don't remember the model, very low hours. But I do remember the local name - very wealthy family, been here forever, own thousands of acres, although farming has not been thier main income for a couple of generations. I have a friend of mine who is a developer, who bought a 150 acre "farm". He went out and bought a $100,000 JD tractor to mow about 20 acres, the lawnmower is a writeoff of some sort, I'm sure. Easy

Awhile back I saw a low hour 1066 sell for around $31,000. Two weeks ago I watched a 1066 fender tractor with 1604 actual hours sell for $5400., but it had sat around for 5-6 years halfway in a shed. So you never know what will happen, I thought it would have sold for $8-10.. Jim

Possibly an estate tractor that some rich guy had. A Farmer I know got hold of a 1486 that was in mint show room condition with just a few hours on it, some rich guy had bought it and planted alittle corn for hire and that was it and it had always been inside, Looked like brand new in every way. I guess it does happen, but don't spend too much on it. Chances are the tach got disconnected at those low hours or something. It's also better to find one that has seen use over the years, because one with that few hours is going to have alot of oil leaks due to setting around and those gaskets all drying out, it's bad to just let a diesel sit, or a gas for that matter. Those tractors are plentiful and nice ones can easily be found. Plus, if you use one that has low hours like that, you would lose money because that would spoil it's high collector value and for the money thats probably going to go for, I'd look for a newer tractor with powershift.

My first thought is why would anyone buy a new 986 and then not use it?

Rusty,

Does seem a little far fetched, doesn't it? Although, I guess things happen. But, with an original sticker price of around $30K, one has to wonder.

If this one is indeed authentic, it may well bring a bid bumping the amount of it's new price.

I saw that auction listing.
and Know if he baught the tractor for the loader work (it has a loader in the pic I have)
it might likely only have the right hours if he were not working much livestock I know I have a loader and backhoe that has not got 300hrs on it since we baught it in 1983 and I set out hay with it and have loaned it to neighbors (with disastorus resaults)

You never know about some. A neighbor bought a new 4wd dually in 1988 and as it sits now it has under 12,000 miles. Never been driven between Thanksgiving and Easter. A lot of money with little use!

Here's a 1976 4x4 with 10,750 miles that's sitting on a implement dealer's lot for sale.

If I were a chevy man, that would go great w/ my ollies. BUT I like my Ford's just the way they are. Rusty but unstoppable and extremely dependable.

Rau,

That one looks authentic. Correct grill, tailpipe on the left, white painted mirrors and rear bumper.

Looks to be South Dakota tags too (dry climate, no rust). What are they asking? $10K ?

It looks like lockout hubs on the pickup. ALL GM 4wd's with automatic transmission between 1973 and 1979 had full time 4wd and no lockouts.

OB,

Yes, I saw that too. 'Spose someone put the kit in the rear of that ol' transfer case?

But, look at that seat. It appears totally authentic.

Dunno,

Allan;
Here's a link to the pickup. (If you snoop around you'll also find a 656 w/ F10 loader!)

Oh Wow!

Wished I lived a little closer to that outfit. Bet the tractor is hammered, but would sure like to dicker 'em out of that darned loader. :>)
