Need a favor from anyone in Nebraska

I bought an old Ford 3 point jack on ebay before noticing the seller won't ship. It's small enough to fit in a pickup truck or it could be slid under a car or trailer loaded on a trailer. I've been trying to find someone to bring it west, but most haulers don't want to go too far off the interstate to make a small pickup like this. It would be much easier of someone living semi-close to I-80 could pick it up for me and hold it until a hauler can bring it this way.

I'm not looking for anyone to make a special trip for this thing, but if anyone in Nebraska ever wanders down around Morrowville KS (on US 36) and could bring that jack back with them I'd be very grateful.

I live in Omaha. I probably couldn't do anything for a couple of weeks. Weekends already scheduled.

I actually need to make a trip to the KC area, might be able to make a big loop.

Drop me an email. It's open.

Jim -
Rats! I went thru Morrowville YESTERDAY (14 MAR 05)! I will be going back in 3-4 weeks, if you still need help let me know. I've shipped 3 of these jacks out UPS and Fedex. BOTH will take them. Can't remember how much, but is was reasonable. I live about 85 miles from Morrowville. Might be able to work something out.

Dang it! I knew I should have posted my plea for help sooner!

Send me an email (it's not hid) so I'll have your email addy. That way we can keep in touch. If I haven't solved my problem by the time you head back that direction maybe you could help me out.

Since you have experience shipping those jacks, maybe if you pick it up you could check out the cost and if it's still reasonable I'll send you the money to send it my way.

Boy,

I'd do it in a heartbeat Casey, but that is probably 400 miles from me just to get to his jack.

Doggone it!

Thanks for thinking of it. I'm not looking for anyone to make a trip like that for this thing. I was just hoping maybe someone near I-80 will remember me if they happen to be going down thataway.

Jim,

Is it just too big and heavy to go UPS?

Looks like this seller would try to help you a little on this one. It isn't like it is a huge tractor or anything. There are freight companies who can arrange shipment on stuff like this, but the paper work probably has to start at the point of origin.

When he started punching in the vital stats into the ebay shipping calculator he got an error message saying it was too big for UPS. That's true and it's not. It's too big for REGULAR UPS but it can be sent UPS if you pay the oversize surcharges. The problem is not weight (it only weighs about 45 lbs), but rather overall dimensions: 49" x 30" x 10" when folded up. I looked into the cost with my local UPS guy and found it would cost way more than I paid for the jack to do that (about $120). By contrast, I've found several haulers here on the YT Mag "hauling schedule" link that will do it for $50 or $60 if the shipper can meet them in York NE on I-80 and if I meet them on I-80 in Park City. The seller is a busy guy and doesn't have time to be at a certain spot at a certain time to hand this thing over to a hauler on his way past. He's got a farm and a job, too, so I understand. It's my fault for not reading the auction carefully. It clearly states that it has to be picked up. I'm patient. I'll keep surfing the hauling schedule and one of these days someone will be coming out of St. Joe's MO, down US 36 and on up to I-80 on his way to San Francisco. The seller has been paid so he's ok with hanging on to it until such time as I can arrange transportation.

I think you're right. Your best bet is with the guys here.

They have and are still doing me some help and favors that just absolutely boggles the mind, especially in this day and age.

This site is the closest we will ever be to the '40s and '50s America again.

Keep trying and someone will get you your jack.

Now you see, that's yet another drawback to living in one of those big square states. I couldn't rack up 400 miles going any where in S.C., round trip.
