Have been shopping for some time for a new tractor. Finally have it down between a AGCO 4WD Model GT55 (61 engine, 53 pto) and a New Holland 4WD Nodel TN70DA (70 engine, 57 pto).

The AGCO is several thousand dollars cheaper than the New Holland and seems to have the same features and meets my needs. My question is - (a) which tractor is better overall and (b) is $31000 a reasonable price for the AGCO with cab, loader and 72" bucket???

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I bought a new Zetor 59 PTO MFWD, shuttle, cab heat/AC & Zetor loader for $26.5K last year. Only problem was battery lost a cell last Fall & dealer replaced it. With a couple of wheel weights I'm right at 10K lbs. I've heard dealers are closing out the Supers to make room for the Tier II compliant engines in the Proxima's - might check around & save yourself $7500 if color does mot matter!

I have a New Holland TN 70 and my dad has an AGCO LT 70 I believe. The AGCO is a better tractor.

Hey, been there and worked for a New Holland dealer for 5 summers. Look at CaseIH too. Same tractor but different color in most cases. I have an internship with the CaseIH division of CNH this summer. Also while working at the dealership we were a MF dealer also, a division of AGCO Corp. Wasn't so impressed with the company. I would for sure shop around. JD makes some good tractors too, but you pay later in parts in most cases.

Bought a new Agco GT65 last year and love it. 4wd, cab, loader. Looked at nearly all of them; just seemed to like the Agco. Some dealers didn't seem interested in making a sale, Agco dealer was. REALLY like the front wheel disc brakes. As to which is better...don't know. The price you mentioned seems good. Let us know what you do.If you want to discuss I will open e-mail.

I would buy the one where you can get dependable dealer service. Price is not the only thing. We have a green one and I think the next one will be red. because of the dealer.

Did you price a 5205 or a 6403 Deere?

Those two tractors cannot come close to the specs of the New Holland or the Agco mentioned above.

How long can Agco stay in business selling a 53HP M4WD loader tractor with cab for a loss at $31,000.00?

Well, AGCO is a public company which releases financial reports. They made a profit of $323M in their 2004 fiscal year, which was nearly double the $184M profit in 2003. See:

Link

Clearly as a business AGCO is doing something right.

CNH, the new name of Case-New-Holland lost $157M in the most recent year for which they have published financials (year ended December 2003). See:
Link

Just because a product seems to offer a great value does NOT mean that the manufacturer is a financial idiot. Read your business history of Toyota sometime if you want to learn that lesson well.

Cheaper price to gain maket share. Market share increases, raise price but remain below comp and gain popularity. That is what all the "no name, never heard of the cheap things" car manufacturers did. Now look at the big 3 struggling to make it.

How do you know that AGCO is selling that tractor at a loss? I am not trying to argue, just curious. Easy.

Mother Deere who isn't carrying debt and has the best cost effective manufacturing facilities in the Western & third world countries. JD should be able to build a similar product for a similar price. Same price for raw materials, transportation and labour. Or is Agco made in China for peanuts and just assembled in the west? If a company is going to undercut prices and sell at a loss, hoping to gain market share in the long run. They have to be backed with patient investors having deep pockets. Uncutting prices and gaining market share certainly worked for a Japanese auto and electronics industry. Ever wonder why Japanese tourists stagger about with three or four cameras around their neck? The exact same camera in North America is 1/4 to 1/3 of the price in Japan. The tourists purchase several cameras and take them home "used" to evade taxes and tariffs.

I bought a 2003 NH TN65.
I am very pleased with it and my local dealer's overall service. ( I have NOT had any problems with the tractor in 250 hours)
When I bought this tractor I shopped Agco, JD, Kubota and compared $/HP, $/lb. etc.
The NH was the best.
I also bought a Q/A Loader/Bucket and the NH assembly was the most rugged and clean.
The Iveco engines in the NH are very good engines.
I sound like I am selling NH, but I am just a happy owner.
Good luck with your choice.
