If a tractor is used properly, what bearings in the engine will likely wear out first? The rod bearings...? Thanks, Glenn F.

I'm going to agree with rods as they have to absorb the shock of the explosion. The crank (mains) is in a state of rotational motion with built-in kinetic energy to keep it spinning and the explosion is just a little umph to keep it spinning.

Oh man txgrn, would you ever have the instructor that I had come down on you for saying "explosion" Explosions don't happen in an internal combustion engine and the engine still stay intact. Its a rapid burn,my man.Kind of a whoosh ,not a boom!

That depends upon the engineering that went into the engine. In most engines there should be little difference in either rod or main bearing wear. Some souped up engines will stretch the rods and then the rod bearings are the first to go if the crank doesn't go first.

I don't know if the rod bearing "wear out" any faster but they are a little less forgiving to excess clearence.
