I know not to use stainless as the sacrificial anode for electrolysis but I have some scraps of galvanized roofing. Would the zinc coating create a nasty solution?

I've been using stainless. I suspect my electrolysis bath probably has some chromium built up in it, but I haven't changed the bath water yet and it still works. Gets pretty nasty looking, though. I figured when I'm done, I'll just evaporate all the water out and toss out the tub.

Stainless steel works great for a anode, conducts good and you can just wipe it off. Its all I use any more, a large plate works good, I have 6 in my tank (75 gal plastic stock tank)

A peice of # 5 re-bar should be a good candidate.
