i always thought they were made in England but my son in law says India also thought they were similar to and would interchange with the ford thousand series. guy about 10-15 miles from me has one only bush-hogs with it seems to hold up.He has owned it 20 yrs or so. about size of a6000 ford (which was never very good)

I'm serious about this..... .they make fine boat anchors. You are not getting a bargin in the long term purchasing one of these. Unless long term to you is measured in hours.

But are there any Chinese Long tractors? As other posters have said, they were made in eastern Europe (Romania, I think) in the 70's and 80's, and were really pretty good units, and reasonably priced. If they are now in China, it would be good to know when that started, so later models could be avoided.

'Course, you all know its just a matter of time before China starts "getting it right". Remember when "Made in Japan" meant cheap junk? Now they have no equal when it comes to automobiles- and Kubota tractors aren't exactly sneered at anymore. The Hyundais from Korea were miserable when they first came out, but are excellent quality now (as are the Kia's), and the Chinese probably aren't far behind. They're business plan is hard to fault- just start making stuff, as best you can, and refine it as learning curve increases and as capital accumulation allows. Nobody ever accused the far eastern Asians of being stupid. . .

That's what economists tell us. In my Wis county we have a foundry that, in a city of 5000, employs 1500. They build a lot of cast iron wheels for John Deere and others. They haven't had a layoff in 30 years. In the same county we have one of the oldest auto companies(FWD) that manufactures Seagraves fire engines. They have a hard time keeping up with demand. Also a small auto parts factory, a mfg of industrial filters, powdered drink mix makers, dairy processing plants, etc. In the county to my northeast there is a yacht factory (Carver) in a very small town. To my east and west are seemingly endless paper mills and a lot of my tillage equipment is manufactured about 40 miles east (Brillion). I can almost see their smokestacks from my farm. Personally, I have never seen so much manufacturing on a local basis.

I have a Long 350 that was made in central Europe. To make a long (bad pun) story short, I was told parts were had to come by and it was an odd tractor. After using it two years, I am absolutely impressed. With the exception of a weak hydralic pump, the engine is bullet proof, has great torque and excellent on fuel comsumption. I have gotten parts within 2 days out of South Carolina and a new fuel pump only cost be $40.00. Better than my other tractors

I hope this helps. I do not know anything about a "Chinese Long"

My friend's dad had a Long 2610 diesel and it ran really well. I liked it very much. The only thing that we really had go wrong with it was the fact that we broke one of the brake bands while we were unloading hay. It was easy to replace, and as it turned out, the brake band was poorly welded to start with. The replacement band is still on the tractor to this day, it was welded perfectly, and it has performed flawlessly since then. Hope this is of some help. Kippster
