Simple first check - see if there is spark when it stops. Go from there.

I have seen it where the ignition points are too close from wear on the rubbing block causing increased coil saturation time and heating up.
Check the point gap and set to spec or approximate by setting to width of bussiness card.
Also, if quits, pour a bit of water on the ignition coil to cool it down. If starts after water cooling then could be points set worn down too close or a coil going bad.

Bring along a can of starting fluid next you run it. When it quits, give it a snort of ether and see if it fires up. That will tell you if the problem is fuel versus spark.

My guess is spark. Has it been converted to 12 volts? If so, there are a couple of possibilities. They may have left out the resistor, which could cause the coil to fail or the points to burn out. I've seen where burned points will quit working when they get hot, I'm not exactly sure why.

The other potential problem with a 12 volt conversion is the use of a coil with an internal resistor. This makes the conversion easy, but the coils themselves are more trouble-prone.

Electrical is dying (most folks say coil first, but I've had 20 condensers die on me, only 1 coil - we moved the coil out on a 2" piece of wood so it wasn't getting quite so hot on the engine block).

Or, the fuel is getting starved out. Gas cap vent; something floating/rolling around in your gas tank/ on the several lines & screens plugging the line.

Or, I had the little wire going through the distributor short out, acted just like that. Couple very small insulator pieces from NH, & worked good again.

Fuel vaporizing - we moved the muffler out & up like a 'regular' tractor to get some heat away from the gas tank; some folks have left the heat sheild out or routed the fuel line poorly to cause problems.....
