Roto-tiller question

My neighbor is about to make me a deal on a king kutter, five foot wide roto-tiller with a three point. He put about 10 hours on it and then got sick and now he is in the process of selling the Pecan farm and moving to smaller place in town. My question is will my 1957 851 Ford tractor effecively utilize the roto-tiller? Thanks for the advice.

You have the horses, but do you have the ground speed? Dunno what the x5x is but I'd say you need an 8 speed tranny or an SOS to get down slow enough to work the tiller. They have to run slow to give them time to "do their thing".

I have no personal experience to relate, on this, but... what I've heard (OK, read...) is that the 5-speed Ford transmission had a slow enough 1st gear for a roto-tiller, so... yes.

Maybe your neighbor would let you give it a 'spin' to see how it will work with your tractor?

You'd be happier with the live pto of a x6x or the lower speeds of a working SoS tranny, but the x5x 5-speed will manage I hear.
