I have a 1020 John Deere tractor with a 47 loader mounted on it. How much weight can I lift without hurting the equipment?

All that data is in your loader and tractor operating manual. Don"t have them? Call 1-800-522-7448 cheap and straight from Deere. An IT manual"s only use is a prop to hold a door open. Do you have a loose materials bucket, tine, forklift, round bale spear or square bale clamp on there? What tire size is front and rear? What ballast weight is she carrying and where? How high are you lifting the load? Traveling at road speeds or barnyard speed? Do you want to know breakout force or safe weight? In the stuck and troubled section of this site. There is a photo of some optimistic operator"s 520 tractor/model 45 loader and a round bale. On the previous dry day when traction was better and the bale was lighter, he was working an overloaded machine that was a lot closer to disaster than he thought. It appears that if the loader would pickup the bale and four tires stayed on the ground he was satisfied. The photo and caption blamed "bad weather". On a wet day with a heavier bale on wet slippery grass. She took off on a modest slope with rear wheels sliding. Not a pretty sight when she finally skidded to a halt.

But don"t overlook the utility to be found in using an IT manual as an excellent surface to set muddy boots on.
