Well we finally got the elect. and phone on today so I am able to run the computer again.

Just wanted to tell everyone Hello. and let everyone know we made it through the storm OK.

New Orleans looks and sounds like Beirut with water with all the black hawk helicopters flying around. The smell is bad enough to make you gag.

My house has minor damage with a lot of trees down in the yard. (40 miles NW of N.O.)
My Mom and Dad who live in Metairie (a suburb of New Orleans) got about a foot of water in there house for about 24 to 48 hours.

I have a neice and her family living in your area and they evecuated prior to the storm and I do not know what damage they received. Best wishes. Jerry

I might just know you or at least my kids know your kids from Ponchatoula High.
I live in Bedico and use to work part time for C.W. & Jill Ridgedell in Loranger hauling feed to his and others dairy farms.

John;
Good to hear you are alright and have a home to go home to. I know a lot of people from up here in the north who moved south to escape the snow. In 55 years I haven't seen snow to match a hurricane.
We are scheduled to go to Bayou Segnette state park in early Jan. for crew training. If you know anyone with info about how damaged the park is I would be intersted in knowing.
Thanks.

While I have not been to the area of the park since the storm I will tell you what I have heard on the radio about that area.

Bayou Segnette state park is in Westwego La. That is the west bank of Jefferson Parish. This area was not flooded and power has been restored to most of the area. The west bank of Jefferson parish is the only place in the parish they will let anyone return to there homes at this time.

In short..... ....
Downed trees and some building damage but one of the least hit areas.

New Orleans and East bank of Jefferson received only minor damage from wind and rain. It was the levee break and then sea water running in because the area is below sea level that caused all the damage.

The very eastern side of La. and western and central Ms. is where the most damage was done because of storm serge. I think they said the storm surge (wall of water) was 25 to 30 ft high.

Have survivers in my house as I type this that lived in Biloxi and were swimming for their lives to get onto the second story roof in 15 foot waves (above the surge) and torrential rains.

Although we don't know each other, from one tractor person to another, I Thank the Good Lord Above that you and your family are okay and didn't sustain any more damage in the storm than you did. I have family in the area and also in northern LA and they have folks staying with them that were not as fortunate as you. We have a bunch of folks from N.O. in the Tulsa area and their stories are awful. I am glad you are okay and I will keep you and the folks from that part of the world in my prayers. May God keep you safe and see to your needs.
