Have one for my 3 year old. Plenty of power but no traction. Would it work to up screws into the tires aka winter racing ? I don't want to ruin the hollow plastic tires.

My freind wrapped high voltage splicing tape around his sons little car.Its 3M 130c available at any eletric supply. Its self vulcanizing and sticks to itself really well.Just read the box and half wrap it around each wheel.

Maybe some spray on sticky-piant or the like? Or the intertube belts as suggested?

I thought about doing the same thing with the electric 4 wheeler my room mates son used to ride. He could follow me through the woods as long as he stayed in the middle of the trail. Like you said plenty of power but no traction to speek of. He rode it as hard as he possibly could until it stripped the gears in both gearboxes. I replaced them both and it lasted maybe another 6 months before doing it again. That's the only real problem I can see with studding the tires. If they don't slip the next weakest link will go and that'l be the gearing. Cost wise to replace both of them at the time was around $50, but that also included both drive motors because it all cam as an assembly. Not a bad deal considering a whole bike was in the $200 range. When the second set stripped he was about 2 months from his fifth birthday so he got moved up to a 50cc gas job. That was nearly 5 years ago and as of last Christmas, his 9th birthday, he's now riding a '86 model 70cc Honda Fourtrax and he can just about ride circles around me. Meanwhile the old electric job has been passed down to my neice and had another set of gearboxes and a new battery put in it and is still going strong.

My son had a electric 4-wheeler when he was small. The wimpy rechargable ones went bad, so I took a battery from my old lawn mower, it had the smaller battery, and hooked it up. Didn't need to be recharged as often. Would even be better to use a deep cycle.

How about cutting some stips from a rubber innertube? Then just stretch them over the plastic wheels. I've been thinking about something like this myself for my neighbors 2 year old. Darn them kids are starting to drive young!
