I am looking at buying one, the lower unit and track has been overhauled or replaced along with the carb. The owner said it cost over 8K getting a deal for 5. I am building ATV trails and the small size will be nice to get threw the woods. Can it dig? How much mud can it push? How big of a tree can I knock over without tearing it up? It has a straight 5-6' Blade, is there a angle type out there? I was told it only weighs 2800 is there a winch atachment for it? I have a welder what do you recomend for a roll cage design? Thank You

Sounds like you want to do some purty HD work with that MC. The final drives were the weak points on the MC. The replacement housings had ribs cast in to add stregnth. If these havn't been replaced you will be constantly replacing bearings etc. The bearings required a pre-load to make up for flexing in the case. I had one about 50 years ago. 5 grand is too much no matter how much he has in it. Ed

try www.jdcrawlers.com for parts or winch or lots of good info
Sounds sort of high to me on price. They were built to work when new, just slower than newer and bigger machines. Great size for trails in the timber, you will have to take the path of least resistance at times unless you can get some leverage and gravity working for you on anything over 6" tree depending on soil.

Michael, in the first place I don't beleive what he's told you. This thing would have to be in "like new" condition to be worth 5 grand. You can buy them all over for 2000 up. Check around. This thing won't push out more than a 4 inch tree and then not oak. It might however do what you need but I'd recommend you spend 10 grand and buy a Komatsu or Mitsubishi with a 6 way blade and after you get through with it sell it for what you gave for it. Good luck whichever way you go.....
