Problems with a 57/600series Ford Tractor. Sometimes when I hit the srarter botton the starter spins but seems not to get into the flywheel, I jump off put her in fifth gear give the rear tire a shake back and forth,I hear the starter make a noise, I get back on hit the button and she starts like normal. Whats going on?

Sounds like you got a worn spot on the flywheel ring gear. If your very lucky, you may be able to use a die grinder with a pine cone carbide bit to reshape the worn/flattned teeth through the starter opening in the bellhousing. If not, you will need to remove the ring gear to replace/flip over or reposition the ring gear. Most engines stop in just a few positions because of engine compression, which wear those spots where the starter always engages and cause this ring gear problem.

Sounds like your starter drive is hanging up.You may have to clean the ratchet drive that engages the starter drive gear or maybe the spring is broken that returns it back to none enguagement.New ones are about 30 bucks.
