Mornin' Guys,

I know I'm picky and all that, but some things just strike me as being wrong. I'm running into a lot of "Farmer Engeenering" on this old tractor.

Anyway, I'm replacin' all the heater hoses that the prior owner had on this oil cooler. Needless to say, they sprung a leak. :>)

The oulets on the cooler are pointing up and the hoses were "looped" over and then down to their inlet pipes at the lower left of the radiator.

Shouldn't the hinges and latch assembly of the cooler be reversed and the cooler assembly "flipped", so that the cooler pipes are on the other side and pointing down with the cooler opening from right to left?

Anybody out there own one of these old dogs?

Allan

On the Hyrdo 70D that was bought new on the farm in 1975 the hoses were like yours. They never leaked in the 27 years that we owned the unit. Re one of your previous posts mentioning that your tractor backed up well but did not advance with the same b-lls: my fading memory is trying to tell me that there are "capsules" located externally that are identical-one for forward, one for reverse. They may be interchanged to see if this is the problem. Perhaps someone else more schooled than I can provide better consel. I remember being billed on several occasions for that repair. Dealer stocked the parts. Just a thought, and they were not expensive. The Hydro was never touched internally in 6000 hours, and was puttting out full pressure.Always used HY-TRAN. QR

Yes Sir,

I think you are talking about the forward and reverse pressure relief valves. They, along with the two steel pressure lines are located just inside that left cover plate.

I'm gonna pull that plate and take a look; local red shop says that they are hard on the seals on the valves you're talking about.

If it is anything more complicated than that, tho, she is up on the trailer and headed fer town.

I just can't see how it is anything very serious; it absolutely bellers in reverse, both hi and low.

Thanks for your help,

Allan

Hi Allan,

I think those hose loops are there to allow for a less rigid connection to the oil cooler. I know that my Fords are the same way, and the coolers are a bit fragile on them, and sensitive to vibration. If the lines were mounted to stiffly, the cooler might just crack and fail over time due to vibration and hose flexing..... With the long hoses, the soft hose does the flexing and leaves the cooler without load. Dunno for sure if I'm right, but it's an idea..... So you're taking this old gal down to bare metal too? She's gonna look as shiny as the rest of the herd? Ah well, I guess it'll keep you out of trouble this winter. Have fun.

Rod

Thats the way they are in my CIH 885 also. I don't know why the loops are there but they are.

Looks just like mine. I replaced the hoses on "Bullfrog" one frosty day the first winter I had him after I dumped the hy-trans all over the highway on the way to bait the girls one morning.

So,

Those hoses do indeed have that big "loop" to em?

Okay, if that's the way they go, that's the way they shall be. :>)

Thanks,

Allan

No, I don't think the extra hose is nessasary, at least I didn't put mine back that way.

Checked into it ole buddy, and it seems IHC in it's infinite wisdom cut back on costs by utilizing the extra hosing for oil resevoir rather than building a bigger tank. Well it could be, :-) Harley. 30 here this morning, supposed to be in the 50's the next ten days.
