The VA Hospital here in Minnesota has contracted out with local clinics. They call them satellite clinics. Call the VA and ask if there is a local satellite clinic you can use.

There is one but to get in you need to let them know a year in advance and then its still ify at best.

Old, you need to call your county VA extension officer and tell him you need assistance. That is what he is there for and getting paid for. I would classify your injury as an emergency.

It is very difficult to tell if a finger is broken by symptoms alone. Lack of mobility can result from a fracture (break), dislocation, or rupture of tendon (other possibilitys exist, but given a history of trauma are less likely). Swelling/pain are common with the above and I have seen people move/use fingers/hands with broken bones. If it was broken and the bone out of position (even a few degrees can lead to misalignment and arthritis later on) Only an xray can tell for sure. (swelling beyond a few days is very suspicious for fracture though).Better get a doc to check it out unless the finger isn't very important to you. There are mobile xray trucks and you could try to get the VA to order a mobile xray to come and x ray you at home).

Hey old, just be glad its the finger and not a toe. Around here an ambulance will not even come get you for a broken toe. They tell you to call a "toe truck". Have a Merry Christmas.
later,
Jerry

Buddy Waters says that he can fix anything but a broken heart. I don’t know what he charges for fingers and he doesn’t have a phone. He lives in the first house west of the water tower in Table Rock, see him there after 9.00 A.M.

Tape it to the other finger. "Buddy taping" it is what they would most likely do at the ER. You have to decide whether you go see an orthopedic surgeon or not.

Yeah, I smashed my middle finger when I was about 15, put ice on it and gave it a yank to staighten it out and set the bone. It's still crooked but it never has bothered me.

My wife's dog broke her finger, she had it thru his collar and squirted him with the water hose and he did a 360. You could hear her squeal for a mile! (That probably wasn't the smartest thing she ever done!) She wouldn't go to the Dr. for about 3 weeks. When she finally went he wanted to re-break it and do surgery on it. She said forget it, it could just stay crooked! If it looks straight, that probably means it is not out of place if it is broken. You can pick up a finger splint at the pharmacy that will keep it straigth 'til it heals and it hurts a lot less when you bump it! ('cause bump it you will!)

I heard if you push on the end, back towards your palm and it hurts like all get out, it's broke. If the finger is straight and you don't feel any busted bones, you could try taping it to the fingers next to it and then go to the hospital.

Hope you feel better soon

Greg

Shoot that cost $$ and I don't have much if any LOL. Its just my little finger so I'll live but be in pain for a little I guess. I did call the V.A. hospital and they said to tape it to my other finger and if it keeps hurting call them back tomorrow and they will have me come up to see them. 100 mile trip like I need that right now LOL.

Tell the VA you can't afford the trip and ask for a local doc to see it. They sometimes will pay for it if you ask in advance.
