Allan , Ya do what ya gotta do ! I do some things the same way out of necessity . If ya don't have someone to help ya - ya git er done by yourself . I set up my 300 gallon fuel tank on/with it's 8 foot stand together by myself with nothing more than the same kind of jack you are using , a broken 2x4 and a broken 4x4 . I used a cherry picker ( engine hoist ) though to take off the 15.5x38 fluid filled tire on my M by myself . It just takes ingenuity and a good sense of the laws of nature I guess . Common sense used doing a senseless act goes a long way to keeping the doctor away . Step back , plan your next move , leave an " out " , then do it . Take care ...Randy

Allan: there are people who can do things and those who should not attempt to do some things. You apparently have a sense of survival and enough brains to pull this off. Good luck and be careful.

Yes Sir,

Guess I shouldn't have put those pictures up. Just trying to show how we do it out here in the country and have been for as long as I can remember.

Really upset a lot of people tho. Sure didn't intend for that to happen.

Thanks for the hollar,

Allan

Glad to know I have company----I pulled 20.8's and cast centers off a 5020 in my back yard with a 5 ton sear barrel jack---but I did spend 29.95 on a pair of 6 ton jack stands, and $50.00 on a a couple of treated 6x6 and 2x12 pieces of lumber---gave me a 'little' margin of error---in case the wrecker I call knocked the hold thing over!!!

You need to clam down a little.

It is just a silly tractor tire and is no big deal.

They just look scary to the city boys if you've never had to wrestle 'em before.

Believe me, I know what I'm doin'.

Allan-

The words I want to say to you arent allowed on the board- but your statement of its just a silly tractor tire is bold. I am a John Deere service tech, and I work with this stuff- and its not just a silly tire. Your lack of respect for honest to goodness danger will haunt you someday....." a silly tractor tire...." I dont think so. Maybe if your such corner cutter, dont tell us- it seriously sends chills down my spine seeing that picture cause I know of 2 people dying from tire accidents- doesnt that mean something to you??? And alot of people saying why as well???? THINK ABOUT IT!!!!

Allan, Damit! Son ...Go to the Country and get you trusty ol H. You will only be Crazy if you do not go get the H. Here...Discretion is the better part of Valor. Better take the time in getting the other tractor than loosing a limb or even worse your LIFE!. Please stop, and reformulate this game plan.
I have never BSed you on anything this important.
As always your Friend.

Hi David,

We got 'er whipped. Worked kinda slick, actually.

I moved that wheel clear out to within 'bout 3 inches of the end of the axle, took both slugs out of the wheel, let the jack down an inch or so and then just laid the old heifer over and off the end of the axle.

My "backup plan" was to just stay back and not "under" anything that could do me bodily harm if it took a notion to fallow gravity's pull. :>)

Hi Guy,

Old H and loader is wayyyyy y out in the country at the farm. Too lazy to trailer it in here.

'Sides, layin' that wheel over on it's side was as simple as pullin' a pair of socks on. The hard part was getting those retainer cap bolts off. Derned old twine wrapped around the axles had wore the heads clear off 'em. Had to use the power chisel to rattle 'em off.

All done on one side tho; if the UPS brings me my other seal, will tackle it next week. :>)

Since it is apart that far, considering the age and previous posts photos etc. I would also put in new bearings, both sides. Besides, the best is this : A) it is not my money that is being spent... B) the advice is free, and as such you are free to tell me..... ..... ....as such. Happy wrenching. Sooner or later if you keep at it long enough you will exhaust the inventory of appropriate places where upon you may legally apply your wrench and force. The number of such locations is finite. Remember, this is not green..... ..... ..... ..... ....QR

Yup,you're a farmer all right.Looks to me the weak point is is not having a small piece of plywood between the tractor and jack, that metal on metal is slippery.Anyhow, good luck from another whose wife calls crazy.

I'm just a youngster, Allan, and I may be speaking out of turn, but that is a dumb-assed way to change a tire. I hope you'll apply a little more common sense when you tackle the left side.

Hi Bill,

I agree with ya 100%. If you don't have the gonads to do this sort of thing, by all means don't do it 'cause you'll make a mistake and hurt yourself or at the very least damage the machinery.

However, I've been wrestlin' these brutes all my life and it is just second nature to me. I knew exactly what I was doing and was "awake" all along the way.

And, just for the record, I'm not nearly as dim-witted as I let on.

What the chrome plated HE*# are you doing? You know better than that.
Now...call in your wife...ask her to call the guys in the funny white jackets. They got a real warm one to fit ya. At least throw a chain fall over a tree branch or something.
Goodness boy...you want to ride in an electric four wheeler the rest of your life?
