Had em all. Still have my Dad's '63 Ford 1/2 ton that he drove off the lot , his first new truck. Chev or GMC 5 window, had them and loved them. My '90 1/2 ton Dodge 4x4, the only thing I have done to the engine after 237,000+ miles is change the water pump cuz it was leaking. Still has all the other factory original stuff that hangs on the block. Still starts and goes any time I want it to. My 2001 Dodge 1500 1/2 ton ( I think it's a 318, don't know anything about liters) drags my 2n Ford on it's bumper pull car hauler all over without a whimper. Are there any bad ones? Of course but there are a lot of good ones also. Had em all. LIke em all longs they are American.

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 that won't start in the rain, '84 Ford F150 that won't start at all and a '90 GMC 1500 that starts every time, even -20. I also have a 77 Chevy 3/4 ton that runs like a raped ape but it isn't safe to drive down the road because the beer cans riveted on to hold the body together are falling off.

Always been a dyed in the wool Ford man-however,After 8 plus years of running at least 1 new stroke a year with everthing from hot shot loads to bull dozers on the trailer,I bought my first new cummins this year and its a fantastic truck.Much improved over last 10 years.Good on fuel, quiet, drives great.By the way,I would still be in a Ford but the 6.0 diesel is a JOKE piece of junk.2 in a row less than 30k miles, and I always got 250k on my 7.3 diesels with NO problems.Chevy never could build a puller.oops-did I say that outloud? LOL

Ford = "Fix Or Repair Daily"
Chevrolet = "Shove It Or Leave It Lay"
Dodge = Well...The name sort of speaks for itself.

We also used to say Ford meant "Found On Road Dead".

in my experence the dodhe has the best motor, worst truck, chevy has the best ride, worst motor, (ive never owned a dura max, ford has the toughest truck second motor, right now we have
1996 ford sd ps with 245000 miles 1 set injecters 2 clutches never had head off i tranny
1999 f 350 dually ps auto 255000 1 tranny 1 r-np
1999 f-350 swt 4x4 ps 345000 miles motor never touched had tranny transfer case front r-n-p
2002 f2504x4 ps 155000 1 clutch motor never touched. all of the above trucks will run 5000 miles between oil changes without adding oil the 96 will b right at 2 quarts low and thev dually will b about 3, for us its ford all the way we also have a couple 7.3 and 6.9 still useing

depends on what you want to use it for: if you want a pick-up that rides like a car, go with Chevy - they have a nice ride, if you want one that will haul a load really fast - go with a Ford, if you want one that will haul a load fast for a long ways - go with a Dodge.....and like our tractors, we have several flavors - except for Oliver and am looking for one of those.....

You sat your a Chevy man so why even ask us ? You better stick with them. Personally for ME I had way too much trouble with GM products quailty control. Dad has a 1981 F350 that has served us well and I have a 1996 Ram 2500 that has been the best truck to date that I have owned. I am about half affraid to get rid of it as it seems like I always end up with lemons.

My choice would be a Chevy truck with the allison and the Cummins. Since the Cummins is not an option for the Chevy, I'd go with the Dodge as that is the only pickup-size wrapper the Cummins comes in. The Cummins is the only "real" Diesel in that size range, as it was designed primarily for tractors, log skidders, bulldozers and general heavy duty use, whereas the "Diesels" in Chevies and Fords were designed primarily for light duty use in consumer products. That has nothing to do with HP and torque numbers but with the primary application the engine was designed for. Now, my real dream pickup truck is the IH CXT with the wet sleeve DT466. Now there is a real baaaad-A pickup, makes the others look like toys.

I drive an 04' GMC Z71 1/2 ton. Wife drives an 04' GMC Yukon XL, sons drive a 98' Tahoe, a 96' Ford 3/4 ton deisel and a 94' F150 4WD. In our toy box we have a show condition 1956 Chevy 150 and a 1957 Chevy hardtop, both hot rods. In the barn I have an 04 Kubota 3830 4WD, a 48' Allis Chalmer WD and a 55' Massey TO 35. The boy's toy box contains an 03 Honda 450 and an 02 Polaris 400. Polaris rides better and has automatic but the Honda is a better climber on rough terrain and ice. As you can see, I like anything that will run and do the work I ask of it. I have always preferred the Chevrolet or GMC products, but I am starting to fall out of love. Every time something goes wrong, it is a dealer-only item and they charge four times what you could get a comparable part from the local parts house. I might just take a hard look at the Toyota's the next time I trade. I never thought I would hear myself saying that. You read it here first!!! I am really getting tired of throwing money at General Motors.

I like threads like this..LOL I drive a Cummins Dodge, but I have always really liked the older GM stuff, chevy or GMC.. Far as tractors, got an 8N,IH424 and a `38 JD unstyled A..I like'em all, would hate to choose a favorite, but the N is the only one I will never part with, cause it was my dads..

the old `81 chevy had 230,000 on it when I got it,mu father in laws old farm truck,has been completely rebuilt,stripped and painted..was a 305,now has a .060 over 454 that dyno'ed at 550 horsepower,or a tad over 700hp on the nitrous :)

I think Ford, GM, and Chrysler all know how to make a pretty decent pick-up.

They've all got their strengths and weaknesses. I think if you buy a model that's been out for awhile (i.e. they've got a ll the bugs worked out) and you keep up on the routine maintenance, then any of them are going to give you many miles of good service.

Have tried them all at one time or another, still go back to Fords, all my light trucks have had in excess of 250,000 when I got rid of them and only had major repairs on one. This goes back to the late 40's to 2003 models. Tractors as my name implies, Case. Chuck

Lotta real originals here. I'll say Dodge is #1 and has never let me down. 2001 1/2 ton Ram 4x4 reg cab. I grew up on Deere and have some green tractors, but I recently bought a Massey and find them so far to be the most underrated tractors ever made.

I've had all of them! Grew up with Chevy/GMC - won't have another (they stopped making real trucks about 1957). Had 2 Dodges, never should have bought the second. Ford is the only way to go! 340,000 miles on a 1997 F-150 5.4 gas, with nothing but normal maintenance and an ABS sensor.
People with them fancy Dodges are just fooling themselves! LOL
