Looking to paint my cub cadet garden tractor. Originaly thought I would get a big compresser and a spray gun and do it the right way. But now I'm not so sure I want to spend all that money (especialy money I don't have!) Cub cadet dealers sell paint in spray cans but It costs $13.00 a can! and a guy I talked with that used it wasn't very happy with it. I know Tractor Supply Stores sells tractor paint in a spray can too but I don't know if its any good. Lastly I have thought about sanding and priming it myself and having a pro paint it but also worried about cost. Any opinions welcomed. Thanks. Mike

Mike,
Try to borrow a portable compressor from a buddy if you can. You're only going to need it this once.
A decent spray gun from Home Depot is $45-65 if the compressor loaner doesn't have one to loan. NAPA has the paint too.

Shoot, wish I was closer. I'd load ya the gun sight unseen since you're spraying IH. Dad worked for an IH dealer for many years. Compressor's not portable though!

The same paint is cheaper at your local Case/IH dealer rather than a Cub Cadet dealer.

Depending on your model, you might not be able to get the correct white for your Cub Cadet, only from a PPG dealer.

I did a Farmall M with cans from TSC 12 years ago. 8 cans of primer and 13 cans of red. It looked great! It's decent paint and good for a small project like yours but I was painting by pushing the can against my arm twards the end. Good luck. Take your time and it will be fine. GWB

I have done a lot of spray painting in my life and one trick I use when spraying with bombs is to set the cans in very warm water until I am ready to spray. The I shake-shake- shake -and shake the can some more. The warm paint goes on very nicely,is less likely to sag and the warm propellent builds more pressure in the can so the paint is atomized much better. As a result I have painted small jobs that people could not believe were done with a spray bomb. They have always thought I used a gun.

Hmmm....wonder if that is why I get such good results in the heat of summer and such lousy results in the cool winter shop.
