What all do I have to change to convert a 3020 from 24 volts to 12 volts. This would include 24v generator to 12v alternator and starter as well?
What about the positive ground set-up?

I would suggest you get the kit, pricey but having the correct wiring harness and instructions make life sooo much simpler. On the 3020 you may [depending on the starter] have to replace the twin filters with a JD box filter to accomadate the extra starter length. Can get a bit pricey but worth every penney in my opinion.

Check archives on this, I asked same question, will not work. Part of wiring is 12 volts and part is 24 volts. What I did was to rebuild battery boxes to hold 12 volt car batteries that have 48 month guarantees.Worked for me.

The most costly item will be the new or rebuilt starter, and a 12 volt alternator will just about always require a negative ground. You probably should also replace at least part of the wiring. Complete kits are available, might be easier than locating each individual part.
