I was at the local JD dealer getting parts the other day and decided to look at lawn tractors. Spied a new 125 series. Hydro, cruise, 48" deck, 20 horse v-twin briggs. Price, $1800. Plenty big for the acre and ahalf that I mow around the house. The only thing that scares me is that Briggs engine. I currently mow with a JD LX172 that is getting some age on it. That 14 horse Kawasaki engine is so smooth and quite though.
Any experiance, imput on the Briggs? Thanks.

hi. that mower is john deer's cheap line, the one that home depot and lowes sell. it is not built as well as the one you have. i almost bought one at HD but after the dealer showed the differences in them i bought the better one from the dealer. the stearing is better and turns shorter. it supposed to be made to last 50% longer than the cheap one. mine is 40" with 16 HP kohler, lots of lugging power. i see JD only puts the briggs in the cheap line, whats that tell you? in 62 years that was my first riding mower and i am glad i got the one i did. it sure is nice. charley.

Replace all the worn parts and do a first class paint job on it.....a new muffler makes the thing sound and look new.....Spend 3-$400 dollars, you will have a better tractor than the new one.....

I used to like Briggs but they made some very cheap engines in past years, so now we have a Husqvarna with the 15 hp Kawasaki. We like it very well and I think it is more fuel efficient (as most Japanese engines are!) But it cost more than the JD you were looking at, I think that's why they went to Briggs engines, to remain competitive with the cheap ones, Murray ect.

I just bought the ole lady a JD145 with a 22 HP v twin briggs. This lawnmower is made in the USA. It has a 1 year warranty. John Deere called me 2 days after I bought it and said that John Deere had briggs build these engines for them. The wife and kids were fighting to see who would cut the grass but once the new wears off, you know who will be the one cutting the grass.
