I bought a 1948 Farmall M that needs restoration.
The choke rod was not attached but was given to me when I bought the tractor. I can't see how or where it mounts once it leaves the carburetor. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

There's a good chance the rod you have is bent out of it's proper shape. See if it can be made to follow the route RustyFarmall described by "adjusting" it as needed.

It's rather difficult to explain, it sort of snakes its way behind the intake tube, through a bracket, over the top of the battery box but missing the sediment bowl, through another bracket, and ending up just in front of the shift lever. To fully understand it, you need to see a very explicit photo, or look at another '48 M. The earlier Ms were a bit different, had a shorter rod so that you almost have to reach under the tank to get ahold of it.
